What a weekend it has been for LSU football recruiting! The Tigers hosted the annual “Bayou Splash” event on Saturday, and according to all sources involved, it was a rousing success. The only downside of the weekend was that top cornerback target Wardell Mack could not attend. Instead, he made his way to Gainesville for the annual Florida event “Grill in the Ville.” Still, even through all of that, LSU football may be trending for the top class of 2024 Louisiana recruit.
LSU football is trending for top Louisiana cornerback Wardell Mack
Regarding college football recruiting, it’s generally wise to expect the unexpected. For the large part of top class of 2024 cornerback Wardell Mack’s recruitment, he’s been a significant LSU lean. Then, in early July, things seemed to be taking a turn for the worse for LSU football fans.
Mack received two crystal ball predictions for Texas, and coach Brian Kelly seemed to be losing ground for the elite Louisiana talent. Then, discussions reached a peak as news came out that Wardell Mack would not attend the annual “Bayou Splash” event.
I reference this as the peak of discussions because, on Friday afternoon, the Tigers received a crystal ball for the stud corner.
What makes this crystal ball prediction all the more intriguing is that it came from Florida State Insider Chris Nee. This brings in the question, what does he know?
Regardless, this recruitment is shaping up to be a photo finish. Texas, LSU and Florida all appear confident they can land the four-star Louisiana-based cornerback’s commitment.
#WaitingOnWardell is the most recent recruiting method for the Tigers
Twitter is one of the greatest recruiting tools in today’s college football. It’s a way for top recruits to communicate and discuss possible landing spots.
It’s also a place for current players to recruit possible future teammates. Just a few weeks ago, this is precisely what we began to see among current and future LSU Tigers. The hashtag “TigersNeedTylen” began to spread among the fanbase, which was intended to draw top linebacker Tylen Singleton to Baton Rouge.
It may have worked, as Singleton committed to the Tigers just over a week later on July 22. Now, those players and commits have shifted their attention to another top Louisiana-based recruit, Wardell Mack.
Hashtags and Twitter already worked once for the LSU football program. Now, with their new hashtag, “WaitingOnWardell,” it’s just a matter of time until we see if the Tigers can go 2-for-2.
Mack is one of the top all-around recruits in Louisiana
LSU football has found itself experiencing an almost unprecedented amount of success in recruiting Louisiana. As things stand, the Tigers have commitments from eight of the top 10 recruits in the state, according to 247 Sports.
The only two who aren’t a part of the class are five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley and four-star cornerback Wardell Mack. While we know very little about McKinley’s recruitment, Mack could be closing in on a final decision much sooner.
The class of 2024 stud out of Marrero, LA, is listed as the No. 115 player nationally, according to the 247 Sports Composite. He also ranks as the No. 13 cornerback and No. 4 overall player in Louisiana.
Standing at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, he’s not the biggest corner in the class, but there’s no denying his all-around talent.
If coach Brian Kelly can find a way to land a commitment from Mack, that would make the Tigers nine-for-ten in Louisiana. Recruiting is on the rise in Baton Rouge, and adding Mack to the total would be huge.
