What a journey it’s been for LSU football running back Tre Bradford. After several seasons of joining and leaving the program, the former four-star has returned and is putting in work. In fact, the class of 2020 product has been grinding in practice to the point that he was just awarded “Freak of the Week.”

It took a few stops to get here, but Tre Bradford might have finally found his home. He first joined the LSU football program as a part of the class of 2020 and is now joining the team for the third time.

Following his freshman season, he transferred to Oklahoma for the 2021 season. Still, that stop didn’t last, as he would return to Baton Rouge months later. Then, it appeared that his football career might come to an end as coach Brian Kelly told the media that he wasn’t a part of the team before the 2022 season.

“Tre has been separated from the university, and there are laws that I can’t get into specifics there,” coach Brian Kelly told The Advocate prior to the season. “But he is no longer on the roster.”

However, that’s in the past, as earlier this offseason, it was announced that Bradford would be returning to the team for 2023. So far, it appears to be a good decision, as he most recently received “Freak of the Week” honors.

Bradford could be an integral piece of the LSU running back room in 2023

Despite his journeyman career, Tre Bradford has some top talent at the running back position. Coming out of high school in the class of 2020, he was rated a four-star and was the No. 160 player in the country, according to 247 Sports.

The high rating was for good reason as well. As a senior in 2019, Bradford ran the ball for 1,563 yards and 23 touchdowns. Furthermore, he averaged an incredible 9.2 yards per carry that season.

In his two-year career with the Tigers, he’s run the ball 12 times for 69 yards. While it’s not quite as impressive as his high school numbers, it adds up to an average of 5.75 yards per carry. If he can continue that kind of consistency in 2023, he could provide valuable snaps for the Tigers.

The LSU football running back room is one of the deepest groups in the country. In fact, they have at least four guys on roster who could likely start at most programs in the country. Still, if he can continue to improve and show that he can be trusted, he could be an integral piece of the offense. Either way, Tiger fans nationwide are thrilled to have Bradford back on the roster.
