Having turned in six productive, and reliable years with LSU football, running back Josh Williams will now take his talents to the next level, declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft Wednesday evening.

From walk-on, to national champion, to captain, to the 2025 NFL Draft

Oh, how time flies in the blink of an eye.

Not long ago, running back Josh Williams was graduating from The Kinkaid School, out of Houston, TX, and taking the gamble of a lifetime, electing to attend Louisiana State University as a preferred walk-on for the football team.

It wasn’t necessarily that he didn’t have opportunity. As a two-star recruit in the class of 2019, he’d received multiple FCS offers, but he clearly wasn’t ready to settle, and instead took a bet on himself.

Fortunately, it wouldn’t take long for that bet to pay off, as just two short years later, he was a national champion, and making normal appearances on the field for the purple and gold as a true sophomore in 2020.

Now, as we currently find ourselves in the calendar year of 2025, Williams has created quite the career for himself in Baton Rouge, LA, and –  for any and all who watched him in college – has developed quite the fanbase, as he now looks to pursue a career in the NFL.

In his six seasons with LSU football, Josh Williams turned in an impressive career on just about all fronts. Not only was he one of the most reliable running backs during his time with the Tigers – logging 1,494 yards and 17 touchdowns in 60 game appearances – but he was a leader, earning captain’s honors, as well as the coveted No. 18 jersey ahead of the 2024 season.

With the 6th-year running back having officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, Williams joins running back John Emery Jr, wide receiver Kyren Lacy, tight end Mason Taylor, offensive linemen Emery Jones, Garrett Dellinger and Miles Frazier, Will Campbell, defensive ends Bradyn Swinson, Paris Shand and Sai’vion Jones, linebacker Greg Penn III and cornerback Zy Alexander as draft hopefuls as we look ahead to April.

The 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place in Green Bay, WI, from Thursday, April 24, until Saturday, April 26. There, as many as 12 former Tigers will spend their weekend filled with high hopes of finding a future for themselves somewhere in the highest level of the sport they love.
