Continuing their way through the 2025 transfer portal, LSU women’s basketball saw its third loss of the offseason, as former five-star center Aalyah Del Rosario will look for a new school for the 2025-26 season.
Former 5-star center Aalyah Del Rosario set to enter 2025 transfer portal ahead of junior season
At this point, it’s a story as old as time, particularly when it comes to college basketball. The transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh away.
For LSU women’s basketball in the year of 2025, there’s been a bit more taking away than one might have hoped, but it’s important to remember that April has only just started, and there’s still plenty of time left to fill out a roster before things are all said and done.
Former five-star center Aalyah Del Rosario was the latest to enter the portal, joining senior guard Last-Tear Poa and junior forward Sa’Myah Smith as the three losses thus far for the purple and gold.
While it’s never ideal to lose a former five-star recruit from your roster, it’s not hard to understand why Del Rosario ended up making this decision. Coming off a freshman season in 2023-24 in which she averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 11.2 minutes of action per game, it felt like it was just a matter of time until the 6-foot-6 center received her opportunity to shine.
Unfortunately, flash forward just over a year, and it’s looking more and more likely that her shining moment will end up happening somewhere outside of Baton Rouge, LA.
Averaging just 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in just 6.4 minutes minutes per game in 2024-25, Aalyah Del Rosario ended up falling further down the depth chart, and now she’ll look to get some more playing time elsewhere via the transfer portal.
With Del Rosario transferring, the Tiger two-deep has officially lost some much needed depth, particularly when you take the losses of Aneesah Morrow and Sa’Myah Smith into account. Fortunately, 6-foot-5 Jersey Wolfenbarger is still expected to return to the team, and with the additions of transfer center Kate Koval and freshman forward Grace Knox, there’s at the very least no shortage of options.
For Kim Mulkey, it’s just a matter of figuring out the best way to properly utilize her new-look frontcourt.
