Brian Kelly, LSU expected to add former Oklahoma State quarterbacks coach Tim Rattay as an offensive analyst
And so the offseason staffing rebuild continues.
Since the 2024 college football season came to a close for LSU on December 31, in Houston, TX, head coach Brian Kelly has been on an absolute mission to ensure a successful 2025 season.
Recruiting and the transfer portal naturally stole the bulk of headlines throughout the first full month of the offseason, but of late, he’s been doing some work in a less talked about area, as he’s slowly built what’s shaping up to me an overall very impressive coaching staff.
Among the latest reported hires include former Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry as a defensive analyst, former Florida State offensive coordinator Alex Atkins as a tight ends coach, and now former Oklahoma State quarterbacks coach Tim Rattay as an offensive analyst.
The news was first reported by Wilson Alexander of the advocate, and once again, this means that Brian Kelly looked at an opposing coaching staff, and found a veteran presence with Louisiana-ties that could come in and immediately make an impact in Baton Rouge, LA.
A former NFL quarterback, who spent his college days at Louisiana Tech, Rattay is entering his 15th season of coaching, most recently having spent the last five years with Oklahoma State as the quarterbacks coach under head coach Mike Gundy.
As a college athlete, Rattay proved to be one of the best signal callers in Bulldog history, logging a career total of 12,746 yards and 115 touchdowns in just three seasons.
As a coach, he’s slowly beginning to find his stride. In 2023, he most notably helped former Michigan backup Alan Bowman to the seventh-highest single-season passing yardage total in Cowboy history, achieving a total of 3,460 yards, to go alongside 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
Assuming the hire goes through, Tim Rattay will be joining a 2025 LSU offensive coaching staff that includes offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, running backs coach Frank Wilson, wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton, offensive line coach Brad Davis and likely tight ends coach Alex Atkins, as well as several other offensive analysts.
