The 2025 LSU baseball season is just over three weeks away, and for the fourth season in a row, head coach Jay Johnson is set to roll out yet another star-studded group, with infielders Jared Jones and Daniel Dickinson most recently being named to the D1Baseball Preseason All-American Teams.
LSU First Baseman Jared Jones selected to 2025 D1Baseball Preseason All-American First Team
Jared Jones very well might be the least talked about 28 home run hitter in recent memory. With 10 players hitting at least 28 longballs during the 2024 season, the hefty number almost felt commonplace, opening the door for players like Georgia’s Charlie Condon, Florida’s Jac Caglianone and Tennessee’s Christian Moore to take the bulk of headlines with their 34+ home runs each.
Still, least talked about doesn’t necessarily mean lacking respect. In fact, with just over three weeks remaining until the start of the 2025 season, Jones is widely being viewed as one of the top returning players in all of college baseball, most recently being selected to the 2025 D1Baseball Preseason All-American First Team.
Coming off a season in which Jones not only led LSU baseball in home runs (28), but also slugging percentage (.747), OPS (1.201) and walks (59), it was something of a miracle for this 2025 roster that he ultimately made the decision to stay, despite being eligible for this past year’s MLB draft.
“Very happy to have him back,” coach Jay Johnson said about the rising junior while speaking on Southeastern 16. “Twenty-eight homers, one of the best power hitters in the country, and he’s a very underrated defensive first baseman. He is a very good defensive first baseman.”
Looking ahead to the 2025 LSU baseball season, expect to see no shortage of Jared “Bear” Jones, as he looks to solidify himself as one of the best players in all of college baseball, and one of the top options in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Infield transfer addition Daniel Dickinson selected as Third Teamer
Moving away from one of the more underrated players in college baseball, very few transfers have been talked about more than infielder Daniel Dickinson, and it’s for good reason.
Rated as the No. 2 player in the 2024 transfer portal, the Richland, WA, product made quite a name for himself over the last couple of years at Utah Valley. As a matter of fact, posting a career batting average of .369 to go along with 27 home runs and 95 RBIs, he has the potential to walk into Baton Rouge as one of the top hitters on the entire 2025 Tiger roster.
In turn, it came as very little surprise, as he was selected as the 2025 D1Baseball Preseason All-American Third Team second baseman.
“He’s very talented. He can impact the game in just about any way, whether that’s offense, defense, on the bases,” the Tiger head coach said about his transfer infielder. “I’m really happy to have Danny. I think he has a mentality, an attitude and a skillset, that maybe last year’s team was lacking.”
High praise would be an understatement, but when coach Jay Johnson mentions you while speaking with the media, it’s generally a good idea to listen.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, it’s yet to be seen exactly where the 6-foot, 200-pound infielder will be utilized most. Still, it’s largely assumed that he’ll at least snag one of the starting spots, while returning first baseman Jared Jones, second baseman Steven Milam and shortstop Michael Braswell III will fill in the remaining three spots.
LSU baseball will get their season started in just over three weeks on Friday, February 14, 2025, when they’ll host Purdue Fort Wayne in Alex Box Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA, for a three-game weekend series.
