Who would have guessed that coach Brian Kelly would be so popular among recruits in Louisiana? The Tigers currently have 12 commits out of ā€œthe bootā€ and could receive plenty more before itā€™s all said and done. Most recently, LSU football recruiting landed class of 2024 wide receiver Michael Turner Jr.

LSU football recruiting: Tigers land elite four-star Louisiana athlete

If you look at the current Louisiana class of 2024, youā€™ll see plenty of either LSU commits or favorites. For instance, according to 247 Sports, 10 out of the top 11 recruits in the state are either already committed or are projected to land in Baton Rouge.

Elite athlete Michael Turner Jr was the most recent to join this expansive group.

Turner Jr is listed as theĀ No. 450 player nationally and the No. 37 athlete. Heā€™s also listed as the No. 11 player in Louisiana for the class of 2024.

While heā€™s primarily viewed as an athlete coming out of high school, itā€™s hard not to see his skillset translate directly to wide receiver. Heā€™s a smooth athlete with blazing speed. Throw in the fact that he stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, and he can become an elite downfield threat for the Tiger offense.

Michael Turner Jr as a prospect

With Michael Turner Jr joining the Tigersā€™ class of 2024, coach Brian Kelly might have found yet another Louisiana-based gem. Just a couple of weeks ago, LSU football received a commitment from Kylan Billiot, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver out of Houma, LA.

It will not surprise me if both players continue to rise significantly as the 2024 class progresses. Turner Jr, for instance, runs a blazing 10.59-second 100-meter dash, and it shows in how he runs routes.

When players have speed like his, itā€™s not uncommon to see them struggle with change of direction. As you can see in the above video, that is not a concern for Turner Jr. He keeps his feet moving, staying low to the ground, allowing him to shift his body and completely change direction with ease.

Even more, he has some sticky hands, which would translate beautifully to wide receiver for obvious reasons. While he likely could rely heavily on his speed to make plays, he doesnā€™t. He isnā€™t afraid to stay focused and rely on his hands to make plays, whether on offense or defense.

Needless to say, LSU football received a good one in Michael Turner Jr.

The Tigers are not done recruiting the wide receiver position

As things stand, LSU football has four-star JoJo Stone, three-star Kylan Billiot and now four-star Michael Turner Jr likely set to play wide receiver in Baton Rouge for the class of 2024. Theyā€™re probably done with that position, right? Wrong.

Just this morning, the Tigers received an expert prediction for LSU football to land four-star receiver Jelani Watkins. Right now, the Tigers are clear favorites to land Watkins.

Another name to keep an eye on is four-star Drelon Miller. The Tigers arenā€™t necessarily overwhelming favorites with Miller, but he has developed a relationship with the program and has several top LSU football commits recruiting him.

Miller also has a commitment date set for June 29, so fans of the program wonā€™t need to wait too much longer for that answer.

There is plenty to be excited about with this wide receiver group. Each player brings something unique to the table and has the tools to be an absolute star in the purple and gold.
