After dominating through the early portions of the 2024 season, former LSU baseball first baseman Tre Morgan has received his call-up to the high-A affiliate Bowling Green Hots Rods; moving one step closer to eventually landing with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yet another 2023 national champion is slowly moving his way through the minors, eventually hoping to land in the MLB.

Former No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 MLB Draft Paul Skenes just made his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates, throwing seven strikeouts in the first four innings of his first game as a starter. Meanwhile, former Tiger centerfielder Dylan Crews is in the midst of dominating as a part of the Washington Nationals’ Double-A affiliate Harrisburg Senators.

Following a similar suit, Tampa Bay Rays third-round selection and former LSU baseball first baseman Tre Morgan has officially received a call-up of his own, as he’ll soon suit up for the high-A affiliate Bowling Green Hot Rods.

During his time in the purple and gold, Morgan put together three excellent seasons, spending his time primarily at first base, recording a total of 1,169 putouts, 70 assists and just 14 errors in 194 game appearances. Not only was he a defensive nightmare for opponents, but he held his own on offense, amassing 256 hits, 180 runs, 20 homeruns and 149 RBIs while batting .332 over the course of his career.

In turn, it’s only natural that he’s followed his time in college up with some impressive play in the minors thus far, recording a .320 batting average to go along with 32 hits, 19 runs and 11 RBIs in 100 at-bats this season.

With Morgan getting the call to the high-A, he’s now just a few more steps away from eventually landing with the Tampa Bay Rays. While it’s hard to say just how long it will take him to eventually make the full jump, if he continues to play the way he has thus far, it could end up taking far less time than most initially anticipated for the third-round selection.
