LSU has one of the deepest running back rooms in the country. However, being without your second-leading rusher due to injury is never ideal. During Thursday’s press conference, coach Brian Kelly revealed that LSU football starting running back Logan Diggs is listed as “doubtful” heading into the Georgia State matchup.
LSU football starting running back Logan Diggs is “doubtful” for Georgia State
One of the big injury updates heading into last weekend was that LSU football starting running back Logan Diggs would not play due to an upper-body injury. Luckily, the Tigers have plenty of more than capable backups at the position.
Still, the junior ball carrier has been on fire throughout 2023, leading all backs with 113 carries, 635 yards and six touchdowns through eight games.
Now, heading into week 12 of the 2023 college football season, it sounds like the offense will be without Diggs for a third time.
“I would say he’s doubtful,” coach Brian Kelly said on Thursday.
Despite the absence of Logan Diggs last week vs. Florida, the Tigers continued to thrive in the ground game. However, the bulk of it was thanks in large part to Heisman-hopeful quarterback Jayden Daniels.
They totaled 329 rushing yards on the day, with Daniels gaining 234 yards and two touchdowns himself.
Who steps up?
With Logan Diggs listed as “doubtful,” it’s time for the Tigers to make use of its deep running back room.
Last week, the leading rusher outside of quarterback Jayden Daniels was senior Josh Williams. Additionally, senior Noah Cain, senior John Emery Jr and freshman Kaleb Jackson each saw a handful of carries.
Unfortunately, Emery Jr went down with an injury during one of his two carries and will miss the remainder of the season.
This leaves Williams, Cain and Jackson as the most likely candidates to step in and step up at the running back position. However, we could also see quite a bit of Jayden Daniels with the ball in his hands as coach Brian Kelly allows him to continue his hot streak this season.
No matter who steps up, we’ll soon know how effective they are. LSU football will take on Georgia State tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. CST in Baton Rouge, LA. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
