Kim Mulkey expecting NCAA Tournament return for star LSU forward Aneesah Morrow

It shouldn’t be long until we see the star forward back on the basketball court!

After watching Aneesah Morrow go down with a scary lower-body injury in the LSU women’s basketball loss vs. Texas on Saturday, head coach Kim Mulkey gave plenty of reason to feel encouraged, as the star forward is expected to return for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

In the world of sports, nothing is scarier for a fan than watching a star player for their favorite team go down with an injury. Add in the fact that injuries were already prevalent on the roster, and you end up with pure heartbreak.

For LSU women’s basketball fans, this was exactly what we witnessed for at least an hour or so Saturday afternoon. Not only was junior shooting guard Flau’Jae Johnson sidelined for the game with a lingering shin injury, but things would take a turn for the worse when forward Aneesah Morrow went down with an apparent ankle injury in the 3rd quarter of an eventual loss vs. Texas.

Fortunately, that panic wouldn’t last much longer. Not only did we already know that Johnson was designated for an NCAA Tournament return, but just moments following Saturday’s loss, Kim Mulkey took the time to put tensions to rest while speaking with the media in postgame.

“This is the medical term I got – she just reaggravated a mid-foot sprain. She was wearing a boot last week, she’ll wear a boot now, but she’s good to go,” the Tiger head coach explained.

“It’s my understanding – I’m not surprised – that she’s fighting them to get back in the game, and they’re telling her, ‘No, no, no. We’ve got bigger fish to fry.’ But that’s Nees.”

With that clarification from head coach Kim Mulkey herself, we can confidently say that the Tigers will be healthy heading into March Madness, and should once again be viewed as one of the top contenders in the entire bracket.

Not only will they be regaining the star power that is Aneesah Morrow and Flau’Jae Johnson, but something going slightly under the radar is the fact that many of the Tiger bench players received some much needed experience their stead.

In short, this purple and gold squad very well may be as deep as its been all season long.

Kim Mulkey and the LSU women’s basketball squad – as good as guaranteed to host for the first two rounds – will soon learn of their draw for the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, as the selection show is set to air Sunday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN. While we could see the Tigers earn a seed as high as No. 2, expect them to fall to No. 3 in whichever region they ultimately end up in.
