When LSU football coach Brian Kelly completely revamped his defensive coaching staff, a large emphasis was placed on what it would do from a scheme and development perspective. Still, one of the best parts of the new hires could be their recruiting ability. Most recently, defensive coordinator Blake Baker went ahead and extended an offer to under the radar class of 2025 linebacker Charles Ross.
LSU football offers under the radar class of 2025 linebacker out of Texas
Recruiting, retention and development. When coach Brian Kelly went out of his way to revamp the Tiger defensive coaching staff, those three things were a major factor in his eventual hires.
While we haven’t exactly had the opportunity to see much in terms of development, retention and recruiting is already looking like a strength for the current LSU defense.
Not only was the staff able to keep some talented veterans on campus, but from the moment the hires were made, coaches such as defensive line coach Bo Davis and secondary coach Corey Raymond hit the recruiting trail hard, offering many of the top players in the country, even getting some on campus for visits.
Now, most recently, defensive coordinator Blake Baker extended an offer to under the radar class of 2025 linebacker Charles Ross.
In an age of specialization, Ross is a bit of a unicorn at the linebacker position. More often than not, the modern day position is broken up into two parts, with players either spending the bulk of their time rushing the quarterback or dropping back into coverage.
Ross is one of the few who can truly do either at a high level. Standing at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, the Houston, TX, product has shown an exceptional ability to cover pass catchers one-on-one down field, with equally impressive ability to rush the quarterback and keep his hands up to potentially swat down any passes.
Currently sitting as an unranked recruit, the class of 2025 linebacker doesn’t exactly have a long list of offers thus far. Among his top offers are Arkansas State, Cal, Pitt, UTEP and UTSA.
With defensive coordinator Blake Baker getting on the North Shore High School standout early, it could bode well for LSU football as they look to continue building their class of 2025 group.
