And just like that, the Tigers strike again. Saturday evening, coach Brian Kelly and LSU landed their fourth top-20 pledge of the class of 2025 recruiting cycle, this time in cornerback Jaboree Antoine. Notably, shortly after his announcement, the latest LSU commitment expressed his plans to bring the purple and gold back to its “DBU” days.
Getting back to the days of “DBU”
From Patrick Peterson to Derek Stingley Jr, no one produces elite defensive backs quite like LSU. This is a big reason why so many throughout the football world view the Tigers as being “DBU.”
However, over the last few seasons, things have taken a slight dip. Under coach Brian Kelly in 2023, the purple and gold were known for their lack of passing defense, and in turn, they had one of the worst secondaries in all of college football, allowing an abysmal 255.6 yards per game.
For many Tiger fans and former players, this was heartbreaking to watch. LSU has built its brand on stubborn defense and a will to stop offenses – no matter who was lined up on the other side of the line of scrimmage.
However, it appears as though things are trending back in a positive direction for coach Kelly’s squad. This past month, LSU brought Corey Raymond back as their secondary coach, which is already looking like a home run hire.
Having spent the last two seasons in Gainesville with Florida, Raymond is no stranger to the state of Louisiana. In fact, he played a major role in bringing the term “DBU” to the purple and gold, having coached with the Tigers from 2006-08, as well as 2012-21.
Latest LSU commitment Jaboree Antoine is ready for his moment in Baton Rouge
Now, with four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine being the latest LSU commitment in the class of 2025, coach Raymond may have played a significant role in sealing the deal.
Following his pledge, Antoine told On3, “He had a lot, him coming back to LSU is a big thing for me, no other place like LSU and Corey Raymond in the picture was the icing on the cake.”
Furthermore, with his commitment, he has high expectations for himself with his future school.
“I wanted to stay home and bring DBU back, I know I’ll be developed for the next level and I know LSU will provide that for me.”
For Tiger fans, this is going to be music to their ears. “DBU” is something they’ve proudly owned for years now, and bringing in talented class of 2025 players like Antoine who understand the importance of it will be big for the future of the LSU defense.
The four-star cornerback out of New Iberia, LA, selected coach Kelly’s squad over some of the top programs in college football, including Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Michigan and Texas.
He now joins a No. 1 overall Tiger recruiting class that boasts nine commitments – eight of which are listed as a four-star or better, according to the On3 rankings.
