Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has been a Washington Commander for less than 24 hours, and he’s already shaping up to be a fan favorite. Earlier today during his first press conference with the franchise, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner went out of his way to go ahead and take a shot at the Florida Gators for old times’ sake.

Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was just drafted by the Washington Commanders and likely has plenty to think about as far as his future NFL career goes. Even so, that hasn’t exactly stopped him from taking shots at his former in-conference rival Florida Gators.

While speaking with the Washington media earlier today, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound signal caller was asked about what it looks like when he “takes your soul as a defense,” and it didn’t take him long to come up with a fantastic answer.

“The 2023 Florida Game.”

When thinking about Daniels and what might have been his Heisman moment during this past season, many immediately turn to the 2023 LSU vs. Florida game – and for good reason. While facing off against the Gators in Baton Rouge, he had himself a career day, throwing the ball for 372 yards and three touchdowns, while adding an incredible 234 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

For context, this made him the first player in FBS history to ever throw for 350 or more yards and run for 200 or more yards in one game. Additionally, his 606 yards of total offense set an SEC record, just further adding to an incredible night overall for the eventual No. 2 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Even more impressive is the fact that this was just one small portion of what ended up being one of the most impressive seasons we’ve ever seen from a quarterback with the purple and gold. Through 12 games, the talented signal caller threw the ball for 3,812 yards, ran the ball for 1,134 yards and totaled 50 touchdowns while completing 72.2 percent of his passes on the year.

Not only was he incredibly productive, but he was also one of the most efficient players in college football this past season.

While it’s yet to be seen how his skillset eventually translates to the next level, it’s safe to say that Washington Commanders fans are hoping to get every bit of this version of Jayden Daniels that they can. Lucky for them, they won’t have to wait much longer to find out how he will look for the franchise, as the NFL preseason is set to get going in early August, just a few short months away.
