Just last week, LSU football recruiting was named to the top-five for talented linebacker target Tavion Wallace, and we might not need to wait much longer for his final decision. On Friday, May 3, 2024, it was most recently reported that the talented blue chip defender will announce his future school later this summer.

Top LSU football recruiting target sets commitment date for this summer

In many ways, LSU football recruiting has felt like a bit of a sleeping giant over the past few months.

To start off the 2024 calendar year, the Tigers were on an absolute tear when it came to class of 2025, landing four commitments in the month of January alone, highlighted by the No. 1 player nationally, quarterback Bryce Underwood. Since then, coach Brian Kelly has landed just three more commitments.

However, with that said, the thing about a sleeping giant is that they’re bound to wake back up eventually. It’s just a matter of when.

While it’s hard to say just how long it will take for the national power that is LSU football recruiting to wake back up, this summer is certainly shaping up to potentially be a good one for the future of the purple and gold.

Most recently, elite linebacker and top LSU defensive recruiting target Tavion Wallace announced that his decision date is just on the horizon. According to Chad Simmons of On3, the high four-star recruit out of Jesup, GA, will make his final decision on July 15, 2024.

Notably, this announcement comes shortly after he narrowed his list of top schools to five, including Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and LSU.

Current favorites to land the talented linebacker

While there’s still plenty of time remaining until Tavion Wallace – the No. 26 player nationally, according to 247Sports – makes his final decision, it’s not hard to see how this could be a bit of an uphill battle for the Tigers of Baton Rouge.

Right now, Wallace has four official visits lined up, including trips to each of his top-five schools, excluding LSU. As we stand today, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker is set to see Arkansas on May 31, Georgia on June 7, Florida on June 14 and Florida State on June 21.

As far as the current favorites go, early signs point to head coach Mike Norvell and Florida State. The Seminole football program has been pushing hard for Wallace for over a year now, having first offered him in March of 2023.

Other than that, the in-state Georgia Bulldogs could also be a team to watch, but for now it seems like the schools closer to the Atlantic Coast hold a strong lead.

Important to note is that while he doesn’t yet have plans to see Baton Rouge, there’s certainly time to potentially set things up down the line. His commitment date being in the middle of July allows for some serious flexibility in the weeks leading up, so it will likely be a matter of how strong coach Brian Kelly and his coaching staff push over the next few weeks.

The purple and gold class of 2025 currently ranks No. 2 nationally, according to On3, holding 12 commitments total; 11 of which are rated as a four-star or better.
