LSU basketball recruiting continued their hot September month by landing a commitment from class of 2025 four-star shooting guard Mazi Mosley out of Montverde Academy.

LSU basketball recruiting lands second top-100 commitment in the class of 2025 recruiting cycle

Things are finally starting to heat up for coach Matt McMahon and his LSU basketball recruiting efforts.

Before the start of the month, the Tigers had yet to see any momentum as far as the recruiting class of 2025 was concerned. The effort was undoubtedly there, but with just a few months remaining until the start of the 2024-25 season, it was just a matter of time until that first domino fell.

Well, as it would turn out, several dominoes were in the midst of preparing to make their move, and after landing their first pledge of the cycle on September 10 (four-star power forward Matt Gilhool), they’ve now officially found themselves with two commitments heading into October.

Ranking as the No. 60 player overall, and the No. 12 shooting guard nationally, according to 247Sports, Mazi Mosley has quickly turned himself into the highest rated commitment for coach McMahon since small forward Tyrell Ward signed with the program in the class of 2022.

In other words, this is an incredibly impressive land for the now third-year head coach of the purple and gold.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 165 pounds, Mosley possesses ideal height for a shooting guard at the college level, but certainly has some work to do in filling out that frame of his. Luckily, he just so happens to have only recently burst onto the scene after averaging 12 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists over the summer. Additionally, being with national powerhouse Montverde Academy, he’s almost certain to get some of the top coaching high school basketball has to offer over the next calendar year.

Impressive around the rim, the La Canada Flintridge, CA, product has solid body control when maneuvering around bigger bodied defenders inside the paint. With that said, if there’s one spot that he could work on a bit extra heading into his senior season, it’s his outside shooting. While he has a good looking release for the most part, shooting 28 percent in this year’s UAA season likely won’t cut it at the next level.

After taking official visits with Michigan and Iowa earlier this fall, Mosley most recently made the trip out to Baton Rouge, LA, ultimately leading him to announce his commitment to the purple and gold over Iowa, Michigan and USC.
