Having earned their 19th consecutive win to start the 2024-25 season, LSU women’s basketball is in the midst of yet another dominant season under head coach Kim Mulkey, and star forward Aneesah Morrow has been a major part of it, most recently garnering some major praise from Vanderbilt head coach Shea Ralph.

When watching an LSU women’s basketball game for the first time, there are a few things the average fan might notice. For one, head coach Kim Mulkey has the best fashion in the entire sport. Another might have something to do with the fact that the Tigers love to play fast, constantly running up and down the floor, whether it be offense or defense.

Finally, and possibly most importantly, is that they go hard for the rebound, every single possession, and while it’s an overall team mentality, there is one player in particular who has found a way to lead the charge.

When former DePaul forward Aneesah Morrow transferred over to Baton Rouge to join the purple and gold, there was no doubt that she was good. Coming off a season in which she averaged 25.7 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore, she had the potential to join already star forward Angel Reese as one of the most dominant backcourts in all of women’s college basketball.

Well, as we now know, it wasn’t only potential she possessed. Officially in the midst of her second season playing under head LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, Morrow has become quite the force, proving to be one of the most dominant rebounders in the entire sport. In fact, she’s become so dominant, that even opposing head coaches can’t help but marvel at what she’s accomplishing this season.

“I do remember when she transferred to LSU from DePaul, it was like, ‘Damn, we’re gonna have to play against her.’ Because I remember what she did at DePaul, and how hard she played,” Vanderbilt coach Shea Ralph said when asked about star forward Aneesah Morrow.

“There’s no substitute for what that kid has inside her heart. And what most people maybe don’t know, but coaches know, you can’t coach that. You can’t coach what she does. You either have that or you don’t. That kid has a lot of stuff inside of her that makes her a pro right now. She is a monster, in a good way. She’s gonna rip your heart right out of your chest, a competitor.”

Through 19 games, Aneesah Morrow is averaging 18.6 points and 14.4 rebounds per game, and her elite ability was shining bright Monday evening while facing off against Vanderbilt in their fourth SEC game of the 2024-25 season. Logging 23 points and 15 rebounds, the star forward played a major role in what would end up finalizing as a 83-77 victory for coach Mulkey and her squad.

“I always have a whole bunch of respect for a player that plays as hard as she does,” Vanderbilt coach Shea Ralph continued. “She makes a lot of stuff that’s hard look easy to do. It’s not that easy to do what she does.”

Sitting at 19-0 (4-0 SEC), LSU women’s basketball is once again on the verge of a special season under fourth-year head coach Kim Mulkey. While there’s still plenty of basketball left to be played, there’s little doubt they’ll need Aneesah Morrow to continue her dominant ways if the purple and gold have any hopes of continuing their undefeated season through SEC play.

The Tigers will next take the court Sunday, January 19, 2024, against the Florida Gators (11-7, 2-2) in Gainesville, FL. The game is set to take place at Stephen C. O’Connell Center, and will be available to watch live on SEC Network at 12:00 p.m. CT.
