The 2023 LSU football season only just came to a close three long months ago, and we’re already beginning to take a look into the future. Earlier today, the SEC announced in-conference opponents for the 2025 college football season, giving a glimpse at what coach Brian Kelly and his squad can expect to see.
First look at the 2025 LSU football SEC opponents
When it comes to projecting talent level for two years into the future of college football, it’s become nearly impossible to do with the recent boom of the transfer portal. Even so, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to look at the expected schedule for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers in 2025 and realize that the purple and gold will once again have to endure quite the gauntlet.
As of this afternoon, we officially know who and where the Tigers will be playing two seasons from now for their typical eight game SEC opponent schedule.
For the home games, LSU will welcome in Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Texas A&M to Death Valley. When looking at those four teams alone, there’s not too much to be afraid of for the time being, but the away schedule seems to be where things take a turn.
During the 2025 college football season, coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers will be traveling to Alabama, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt in what has the potential to shape up to be one of the more challenging road schedules of the season.
Recap of the nonconference schedule
In addition to the SEC scheduled opponents, we also know three of their four nonconference games. As we stand today, the Tigers are set to host Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky, as well as travel to Clemson.
While Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky shouldn’t pose too heavy a threat, the Clemson game is intriguing. While the Tigers have struggled in recent years, there was a time not too long ago (about five years to be exact), when coach Dabo Swinney had his team consistently in the College Football Playoff.
As a matter of fact, the last time we saw an LSU vs. Clemson matchup was in the 2019 CFP National Championship, when the Bayou Bengals – led by quarterback Joe Burrow – dominated their opponent 42-25.
While the 2025 LSU football team shouldn’t have too much to worry about looking into the future, it’s important to remember that no schedule is ever easy in the SEC and this is likely to be no different.
