When it comes to scouting and acquiring talent in the sport of women’s basketball, few are better than coach Kim Mulkey. On Tuesday, class of 2024 LSU women’s basketball signee Jada Richard was officially nominated for the upcoming McDonald’s All-America game.

While LSU hasn’t been quite as dominant on the recruiting trail in the class of 2024 as they were for the class prior, there’s certainly no lack of talent.

In the class of 2023, coach Kim Mulkey landed four commitments, all of which rated as a four-star or higher. As things stand, class of 2024 LSU women’s basketball signee Jada Richard is the only commitment for the Tigers in the current cycle, but this isn’t exactly reason for any concern.

Richard has been on an absolute tear over the last year or so, and in turn has been rewarded with a nomination for the upcoming McDonald’s All-America game. While a nomination isn’t exactly a guarantee, it’s only additional affirmation that she’s viewed as one of the top players in high school basketball.

According to the espnW class of 2024 rankings, Richard ranks among the best in the country, sitting at No. 97 nationally. Furthermore, the 5-foot-6 four-star point guard is the highest rated player out of Louisiana.

While she isn’t exactly a top ranked five-star recruit, she very well may be one of the more underrated recruits in the country. Louisiana isn’t exactly known for pushing out consistently elite basketball players, which is likely going against Richard in this case.

Still, don’t let the rankings confuse you. Richard has some serious potential. Over the weekend, in just two games, she put up a total of 84 points, continuing her run of impressive offensive play.

Additionally, in the process of bringing her team to a Division II state championship, she averaged 28.2 points, five assists, four steals, and five rebounds per game. If her play as a part of Lafayette Christian Academy is any indication, she has the potential to make a significant impact for the Tigers in the future.

The official McDonald’s All-America rosters will be announced later this month, as the list will be narrowed to 24 total girls on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. You can watch the announcement live on ESPN between 2-3 p.m. CST. Once the rosters are finalized, the final game will take place on Tuesday, April 2, at 5:30 p.m. CST on ESPN2.
