Coach Brian Kelly and LSU football have elected to look to the north as they continue searching for a spring transfer portal defensive lineman. Earlier today, the Tigers extended an offer to Grand Valley State transfer portal defensive lineman Jay’viar Suggs.

It hasn’t been the most successful spring transfer portal window for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football, but they certainly haven’t given up yet.

The 2024 LSU football defensive line is going to look vastly different from how it did just one season ago. In 2023, coach Brian Kelly had a rare luxury in the form of several NFL draft-caliber players along his defensive interior, and as good as it was at the time, it left the Tigers somewhat scrambling entering the current offseason.

In turn, it came as little to no surprise that defensive line would go on to be the main priority heading into the spring transfer portal. Unfortunately for coach Brian Kelly, that plan hasn’t exactly panned out, and the Tigers are still lacking in overall experience within the position group.

Still, not all is said and done, and the purple and gold have officially continued their search by most recently extending an offer to Division II transfer portal defensive lineman Jay’viar Suggs.

Entering his third season of college football, Suggs has proven to be an immediately effective defender, regardless of the level of competition he’s facing off against. In two seasons with Grand Valley State University, the 6-foot-3, 282-pound Flint, MI, product has recorded 42 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, nine pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

Interestingly enough, just one day ago, the talented defensive lineman had released a list of his top-six schools which included Arkansas, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, USC and Wisconsin. While he hasn’t made any updates to said list, it will certainly be notable to watch and see if anything has changed in that department since the most recent LSU football offer.

Suggs currently rates as a three-star transfer portal target, ranking No. 703 nationally, according to 247Sports. Currently sitting as the No. 2 available defensive lineman in the country, the Michigan-based defender reportedly possesses over 40 offers and will essentially have his pick of the litter when it comes to his final choice this spring transfer window.
