Last night, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, the Fighting Tigers came away with an impressive 62-0 victory over Army. Notably, for LSU football coach Brian Kelly, this victory was a little extra special as it was win No. 300 in his coaching career.

The Tigers’ win over Army on Saturday was monumental for multiple reasons. Not only was it an impressive showing, as they came away with a 62-0 victory heading into the BYE week, but LSU football coach Brian Kelly also achieved an incredible milestone in the process.

Having first begun coaching at 28, he’s in the midst of his 34th career season in 2023 – and what a career it’s been.

According to the LSU athletics website, Kelly’s career coaching record now sits at 300-103-2. It’s important to note that his total includes 21 vacated wins from his 2012 and 2013 seasons with Notre Dame.

As incredible an achievement as it was for LSU football coach Brian Kelly, for him, coaching is about more than adding a win to the total. He’s well known as a player developer, which shows in his teams’ growth, whether at Grand Valley State, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Notre Dame or LSU.

Thinking about the 2023 season alone, the Tigers stumbled out of the gate with a 3-2 record. However, after three consecutive wins over quality opponents, the purple and gold are back on the rise.

“I can tell you that I haven’t had more fun coaching than I’ve had being here with you guys,” said coach Brian Kelly to his team following the win over Army last night.

If things continue to move in the direction it’s going, LSU football should be in excellent hands with Kelly at the helm. For now, it’s on to the BYE week, and Alabama is on the clock.
