Coach Brian Kelly and running backs coach Frank Wilson are building themselves a monster of a position room. In the last two cycles, LSU football recruiting brought in four-stars Kaleb Jackson, Trey Holly and Caden Durham. Now, as we move ahead to the class of 2025, the Tigers already have five-star Harlem Berry committed and still might not be done yet, as James Simon and JT Lindsey are set to visit in the next month or so.

Four-star running back JT Lindsey will be in Baton Rouge for the March LSU football recruiting junior day

When it comes to producing high-upside running backs, no state comes even close to that of Louisiana in the class of 2025.

According to On3, the Boot has claim to three of the top-11 running backs in the country, headlined by five-star Harlem Berry. For context, no other state has more than one in that same range.

For LSU football recruiting, this is a rare gift, and one that the coaching staff is likely hoping to take advantage of. In turn, this can help to explain why the purple and gold are set to host at least two of the three within the next month or so.

First up is four-star Alexandria, LA, standout JT Lindsey. While technically ranked the lowest of the Louisiana ball-carriers, the No. 143 player nationally has more than enough talent to make quite the name for himself over the next year or so.

Standing at 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, Lindsey’s speed is by far the most eyepopping aspect about his game. While there’s certainly room to fill out his frame over the next year or so, his track background allows him to fly past defenders at a consistent rate.

The four-star class of 2025 running back has three spring visits lined up. He’ll first take a trip over to Baton Rouge on March 9, before taking official visits to Pitt and Houston on June 6 and June 14 respectively.

The Tigers continue moving in the right direction with top-200 recruit James Simon

Moving up the rankings a bit, four-star running back James Simon will also be taking a trip to Baton Rouge a few weeks later on March 24. This will be one of two trips for the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder, as he’ll also visit Texas on April 19.

Ranking as the No. 103 player nationally, according to On3, as well as No. 8 among running backs, Simon has more than proven himself as a top talent in the state of Louisiana and the country as a whole.

Interestingly enough, despite having comparable measurements to that of fellow Louisiana product JT Lindsey, he’s vastly different in terms of playstyle. While Lindsey relies heavily on his speed, Simon almost searches for contact.

A standout out of Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, LA, Simon has been highly productive from both a ball carrying and pass catching standpoint. In total, he’s amassed 2,763 yards rushing, 346 yards receiving and 52 touchdowns.

With three highly productive running back recruits right in their backyard, there’s no doubt LSU football recruiting has high hopes for the group they can build in the class of 2025. While it’s unrealistic to expect all three to land with the Tigers, gaining at least two commitments could do incredible things for the future of the purple and gold.
