Coming off a big-time recruiting weekend, the LSU football class of 2026 is now up to five total commitments, with the most recent coming Tuesday morning from Louisiana-based three-star wide receiver Kenny Darby.
LSU football class of 2026 lands its second in-state wide receiver commitment
Moving away from the weekend’s 42-13 loss against the Crimson Tide of Alabama, things haven’t exactly been trending in a positive direction for the Bayou Bengals over the last few days.
Luckily for coach Brian Kelly, while the on-field performance has stayed fairly inconsistent throughout the 2024 season, off-field recruiting has continued to move forward.
Already possessing one of the top recruiting classes in the 2025 cycle, the Tiger coaching staff has recently turned their attention to the LSU football class of 2026, and it already appears to be paying off.
Entering the day ranked among the top programs nationally, the group just got a little better Tuesday morning, landing a commitment from three-star wide receiver Kenny Darby out of Bossier City, LA.
Officially listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds, Darby currently ranks as the No. 450 player nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, as well as No. 12 within the state of Louisiana.
A dual-sport athlete for Airline High School, Kenny Darby leaves his impact not only on the football field, but also in track and field, competing in events such as the triple jump, and the 100-meter.
As a junior in 2024, Darby utilized some solid speed and route running, as well as impressive playmaking ability to log career highs in just about every stat category. He recorded 80 receptions for 1,489 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games, doubling all of his stats from just one season ago.
Furthermore, averaging 18.6 yards per reception, the three-star pass catcher proved to be a reliable deep threat with surprisingly good body control, making him a fantastic red zone target, despite his somewhat average size for a wide out.
Darby was notably in Baton Rouge over the weekend, and it appeared to be a good visit, as he not only received his official offer, but also elected to announce his commitment just days later. He ultimately picked LSU over several power five options including Florida State, Missouri, Texas A&M and Mississippi State, who he’d previously been committed to just over a week ago.
The LSU football class of 2026 now ranks No. 8 nationally, as well as No. 4 within the SEC, with five total commitments, all of which are based out of Louisiana.
