LSU football may have just landed their quarterback of the future, as former Mississippi State Bulldog Michael Van Buren has officially announced his transfer portal commitment to Brian Kelly and his 2025 roster.
Former Mississippi State signal caller Michael Van Buren gives LSU a major upgrade to its quarterback room
“We’ll be very aggressive.”
LSU coach Brian Kelly made a promise to his fanbase ahead of the 2025 transfer portal. Coming off an offseason in which he and his entire coaching staff struggled mightily to bring in the big names, something clearly needed to change.
What exactly that change was is difficult to pinpoint, but the fact of the matter is that we are witnessing a level of success in the transfer portal that we simply have not seen with the Brian Kelly led LSU Tigers.
Starting things off was former Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp Friday afternoon, and now, looking back, it’s apparent that this was only just the beginning. Since receiving that first pledge, the Tigers have found themselves in the midst of a heater, having landed five total players, including Florida cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown, Nebraska edge rusher Jimari Butler, and most recently, Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren.
Van Buren, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal caller out of Bowie, MD, was being viewed as the future of Mississippi State football as recently as earlier this week. Having earned the starting job for the Bulldogs this past season, the true freshman logged a respectable 1,886 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions on a 55 completion percentage.
With that said, a lot can happen in one week, and after showing incredible arm strength and athleticism throughout the 2024 season, it appears that Michael Van Buren is setting himself up to potentially earn the starting job for LSU football in 2026.
The Tiger transfer portal haul is officially up to five players, ranking their efforts No. 3 nationally, trailing just Texas Tech and Ole Miss – both of which hold six commitments. The winter transfer period will officially come to a close on December 28, and players will again have the chance to pursue other opportunities from April 16 until April 25, 2025 this coming spring.
