Coach Matt McMahon and the Tigers havenā€™t had a particularly memorable 2023-24 season thus far. With an overall record of 5-3, including losses against Nicholls, Dayton, and Syracuse, thereā€™s plenty of room to grow. Nevertheless, that hasnā€™t stopped the program from continuing to recruit at a high level. Recently, top LSU basketball recruiting target and elite class of 2025 point guard Jalen Reece discussed his visit to Baton Rouge.

When Coach Matt McMahon was hired as the head basketball coach at LSU, there was plenty of work to be done. The roster was as close to empty as it gets, and he likely had years of building ahead of him.

For the Tigers, that meant some serious recruiting was going to be needed if things were going to work out as fans hoped.

So far, Coach McMahon has secured two commitments in the class of 2024 and is in contention for several elite prospects in both of the upcoming recruiting classes.

Among these top recruits is LSU basketball recruiting target Jalen Reece. The four-star point guard in the class of 2025 ranks No. 77 nationally and No. 11 at his position, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Recently, he took a visit to Baton Rouge in mid-October, and per Joe Tipton of On3, he had some excellent things to say about the school and his visit as a whole.

ā€œIt was a cool visit,ā€ the class of 2025 four-star reflected with On3. ā€œJust knowing that players like Antonio Blakeney and Ben Simmons went there, those are people I look up to. Knowing that its my turn to go and put the jersey on and just having the ability to go over there and play. (Antonio Blakeney) means a lot to me personally.

ā€œThatā€™s like my big brother. I remember last year he told me to always be the last one out of the gym. Heā€™s given me a lot of tricks and tips and I work out with him in the summer. I love our relationship.ā€

Antonio Blakeney played for the Tigers from 2015-2017, while Ben Simmons was with the program just his freshman year in 2015-16 before heading off to the NBA. Both left significant impacts in Baton Rouge, averaging 14.8 and 19.2 points per game, respectively, over the course of their careers.

If it is indeed Reeceā€™s turn to ā€œput the jersey onā€ and land in Baton Rouge for his collegiate career, he would be yet another big-time piece, helping to push LSU basketball back on the national stage.
