With two months remaining until the start of the 2024-25 college basketball season, LSU basketball has officially gotten things moving from a recruiting standpoint, most recently landing a commitment from class of 2025 four-star power forward Matthew Gilhool out of Elizabethtown, PA.

Four-star power forward Matthew Gilhool becomes first LSU basketball class of 2025 commitment

It’s been a quiet few months for LSU basketball as they begin preparation for their 2024-25 season. With that said, coach Matt McMahon has been putting in some serious work behind the scenes, and it’s finally starting to show itself.

Earlier this week, the Tigers landed their first commitment of the class of 2025, as four-star power forward Matthew Gilhool announced his pledge Tuesday evening.

Officially listed as a 6-foot-10, 205-pound big man out of Elizabethtown, PA, Gilhool currently ranks No. 62 nationally, according to On3, as well as No. 15 among fellow power forwards in the class of 2025.

“I just like what coach McMahon has going on,” the four-star LSU basketball commitment told Joe Tipton of On3.

“I think there’s a lot of good stuff for the future with LSU. Just the amount of love they were showing me. They were always hitting me up, always calling me, and they’ve been recruiting me the hardest. I thought that was really important.”

A unicorn in every sense of the word, Gilhool has the kind of touch necessary to be a threat from beyond the arc, but also possesses plenty of bounce and athleticism to properly utilize his 6-foot-10 frame around the rim.

While the Tiger class of 2025 isn’t exactly imposing from a sheer numbers point of view, adding the William Penn Charter standout gives them an excellent piece to work around moving forward. With Tuesday’s commitment, the recruiting class now ranks No. 17 nationally, and has the potential to soar in the rankings if they can continue the positive momentum ahead of the start of the 2024-25 college basketball season.
