It’s a tough day for anyone who doubted coach Brian Kelly and his ability to recruit in the SEC. After putting together a sub-par No. 12 class in the 2022 recruiting cycle, the Tiger head coach is now on track for three top-5 LSU football recruiting classes in a row. The major shift came following the latest On3 rankings, giving a significant boost to new five-star class of 2024 commitments Dominick McKinley and Trey’Dez Green.

LSU football recruiting commit Dominick McKinley bursts onto the scene

Not only was coach Brian Kelly able to keep elite defensive lineman Dominick McKinley in-state, but he also managed to steal him away from in-conference Texas A&M.

The newly labeled five-star recruit initially shutdown his recruitment in September of 2023, but after a head coaching change for the Aggies, he elected to stay closer to home and announce his flip commitment to LSU football recruiting on New Year’s Eve.

At the time, McKinley was rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 1 player in Louisiana. Now, after a recently updated On3 recruiting ranking, the big-time defensive lineman is officially a five-star.

As it stands, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Acadiana standout ranks No. 24 nationally, as well as No. 3 among defensive linemen. Furthermore, with his position as the No. 1 player in the Tiger class of 2024, look for McKinley to be a big-time candidate for early playing time in a relatively unproven defensive line group.

Tight end Trey’Dez Green becomes third class of 2024 five-star pledge

When thinking about current high school recruits with the potential of making an immediate impact at the next level, few fit the bill better than LSU football recruiting commitment Trey’Dez Green.

The big-time tight end stands at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds and is a mismatch for any defensive back bold enough to lineup against him. Now, with the newly released On3 rankings, he’s finally received his much deserved five-star rating, landing him at No. 32 nationally.

While LSU isn’t exactly hurting for depth throughout their tight end group, it’s hard to imagine coach Brian Kelly keeping Green on the sideline for too long. Ranking as the No. 2 player in Louisiana, as well as No. 2 at his position, he already looks like a force that few at the next level will be able to stop.

With three five-star commits in the current recruiting cycle, it’s becoming abundantly clear that coach Brian Kelly is more than capable of competing on the recruiting trail. Now, it will just be a matter of what he can do with the players on the football field heading into year-three.
