What a day it was for Coach Brian Kelly and the LSU football program. Wednesday marked the beginning of the annual Early Signing Period, and despite concerns about flips or decommitments that plagued many programs, things unfolded as smoothly as one could hope for the Tiger class of 2024. Coach Kelly addressed his 27 signees with the media last night, notably sharing thoughts on the potential of tight end Trey’Dez Green.

It’s not often that you see a 6-foot-7, 230-pound tight end running the field stride-for-stride with opposing cornerbacks, but that’s exactly what LSU is gaining with newly signed tight end Trey’Dez Green.

Even more impressively, Green is still relatively new to the sport of football. With a background in basketball, the four-star Zachary, LA, native has a second-nature ability to high-point a pass and box out opposing defenders on a consistent basis.

In turn, he’s always a threat for a big-play or two and caught 53 receptions for 960 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023.

When asked about the big-bodied pass catcher, coach Brian Kelly sounded particularly excited about the improvement he’s shown over the last year or two.

“Trey’Dez Green, just starting to scratch the surface in terms of what he can do as a football player,” the Tiger head coach said Wednesday evening. “I thought his jump from last year to this year of understanding the game and it coming easy to him was probably as big as anyone that I’ve seen in one year.

“Generally, it takes longer for somebody that’s just played the game to pickup the nuances of the game, but you could spread him out as a receiver from last year to this year. His awareness, his body control, the things that he did from last year to this year was pretty remarkable.”

Green is the highest ranked signing for the LSU class of 2024 thus far, ranking No. 45 nationally and No. 3 in his position, according to 247Sports. The Tiger class as a whole has signed 27 recruits, bringing them to No. 12 nationally with the potential to bring in more talent before things are all said and done.
