Signing day is upon us, and despite some recent struggles in the world of recruiting, LSU football remains in the hunt for several of the nation’s top recruits. Among said recruitments is that of five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, who recently began trending towards the purple and gold ahead of the early signing period.
Five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas trending towards LSU football ahead of his signing day
Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s officially signing day, and even despite a rough Tuesday, there’s still a chance that the Tigers come out of the week smelling like roses.
Just two weeks ago, LSU football recruiting was sitting on top of the world. Holding commitments from four five-star recruits this cycle to go along with a top-five class nationally, the future was looking bright. Since then, however, things haven’t gone quite as planned for Brian Kelly and his coaching staff.
The Tigers have since lost commitments from five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, four-star edge rusher LA Jesse Harrold and five-star cornerback Kade Phillips. As if that weren’t bad enough, just yesterday, news broke that several impact players from this past season’s roster would be entering the transfer portal, as wide receiver CJ Daniels, edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack and safety Jordan Allen will all look for a new home in 2025.
Still, the thing about recruiting in college football that’s often forgot about is the balance that comes with it. While it’s not an exact science by any means, it’s not uncommon for there to be some good news right around the corner, even in what might seem like the darkest of times.
For Brian Kelly and the purple and gold, the early signing period very well may provide that spark of hope, as Tuesday night, the Tiger class of 2025 received multiple expert predictions from Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong of On3 for five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas.
Officially listed as a 6-foot-4, 315-pound inside offensive lineman out of Jacksonville, FL, Thomas has the ability and size to see the field earlier than most players first coming out of high school. For an LSU offensive line that could be losing as many as four starters this offseason, that kind of potential would be a more than welcome addition.
Rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 24 player in the class of 2025, according to the 247Sports Composite, Thomas has been committed to Florida State since December 22, 2023, and despite taking occasional visits to rivals such as Florida and LSU, he’s largely stayed consistent with his pledge to the Seminoles.
Still, with signing day having officially arrived, there may be a changing in the tides. Both the Florida Gators and LSU have made strong pushes of late, and are each likely feeling solid about their chances to ultimately land a signature from the talented five-star offensive lineman.
Solomon Thomas has announced that he will make his signing day decision at 4:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, and will more than likely be choosing between the trio of Florida State, Florida and LSU.
