Secondary coach Corey Raymond has once again landed a commitment from one of the top defensive backs nationally, as class of 2025 cornerback Kade Phillips announced his flip commitment from Texas to LSU early Sunday evening.

Elite class of 2025 cornerback Kade Phillips becomes latest to announce flip commitment to LSU football

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond is making some serious moves on the recruiting front.

Getting the month off to a hot start, the Tigers first landed a commitment from three-star Tennessee safety CJ Jimcoily on August 8. At the time, this was the third defensive back to commit to the purple and gold in the class of 2025, and there were still several others that Brian Kelly’s coaching staff were making a strong push for.

As it would turn out, this was only the beginning for the month, as the program has just now landed its fifth commitment in the last 10 days, as elite four-star cornerback Kade Phillips became the latest to flip a previous commitment over to LSU.

Officially listed as a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback out of Missouri City, TX, Phillips had previously been committed to the Texas Longhorns since July 6, 2024. With that said, as is true in every recruitment, nothing is official until pen hits paper on national signing day, and less than two months later, the blue chip defender has elected to make the switch over to the purple and gold.

Ranking as the No. 65 player nationally, according to On3, as well as No. 7 among fellow cornerbacks, Phillips brings a tremendous combination of length and athleticism to the Tiger class of 2025. Along with football, he also competes for the Hightower track and field team, consistently showing elite ability in the long jump, as well as the 200 and 400-meter races.

After today’s commitment, the LSU class of 2025 continues to rank among the very best nationally, sitting at No. 3 overall and No. 2 in the SEC. Furthermore, with the addition of Phillips, the Tigers now have four defensive backs verbally committed (cornerbacks DJ Pickett and Kade Phillips, safeties Jhase Thomas and CJ Jimcoily), and have the potential to land even more before things are all said and done.
