LSU is just days away from their ReliaQuest Bowl game matchup vs. Wisconsin on New Year’s Day. As prep continues for the Tigers, LSU freshman linebacker Whit Weeks took some time to discuss the importance of family for him.

For LSU freshman linebacker Whit Weeks, the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl is a part of his dream come true

One of the more pleasant surprises through the 2023 season was that of LSU freshman linebacker Whit Weeks. The younger brother of fellow linebacker West Weeks made his way over to Baton Rouge this year from Watkinsville, GA, and almost immediately found a way to make an impact.

His presence was first felt during the Tiger spring game in April after returning an interception for a touchdown. Almost a year later, we now know that he was only getting started.

Over the course of his inaugural collegiate season, he totaled 42 tackles, three of which went for a loss.

Now, as he continues to prepare for the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl vs. Wisconsin on New Year’s Day, he took some time to reflect on his first year with the program.

“I have a lot of great memories,” the first-year linebacker said on Thursday. “Playing in Death Valley for the first time, playing in front of 100,000 fans is awesome. And then really just being with the guys in the locker room, going out at practice, having fun with them – that’s some of the best memories you have right there.”

However, it’s not just the football that’s so special for the Georgia native. With his brother West on the team, he’s currently living out a dream they’ve likely had since they were children.

“It means a lot,” Weeks continued. “Coming down and playing college football with him has been a dream of ours come true. And actually being able to get out there on the field some together too has been amazing for us too, and our family.”

Weeks explains his consistent positive attitude

Few smiles are more contagious than that of the LSU freshman linebacker Whit Weeks. Since the beginning of the season, he’s always seemed to have a smile on his face, and he has a pretty simple explanation for it.

“It’s more fun to go through life with a good attitude.”

Fittingly, as someone who currently attends the same college as his older brother, family has been a big part in what keeps him so positive. When asked where his consistent positivity comes from, he immediately looked back home to his parents.

“My dad and mom, they’re happy people,” he reflected while speaking with the media on Thursday. “They work hard, so I see from them and give a lot of credit to them.”

With the star first-year set to return to the Tigers for 2024, things are looking up for the LSU defense, and Weeks figures to play a major role in it. Add in the likely return of Harold Perkins Jr and Greg Penn III, opposing teams will be faced with quite the force with the Tiger linebackers.

For now, though, fans of the purple and gold will be able to see him soon, as this year’s bowl game right around the corner.

LSU will face off against Wisconsin in the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl in what will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools. The matchup will take place on New Year’s Day in Tampa, FL, and will be broadcast live at 11:00 a.m. CST on ESPN2.
