After a big-time get-right victory over Nicholls on Saturday, LSU football most recently found themselves with some positive momentum, moving up to No. 16 nationally in the latest version of the 2024 college football AP Poll.

LSU football creeps their way closer to the top-15 in latest 2024 AP Poll

Week two of the 2024 college football season has officially come and gone, and with that, the latest AP Poll has most recently been released, and there is no shortage of surprises in this week’s version.

For starters, following Notre Dame’s shocker of a loss vs. Northern Illinois, the Fighting Irish took a hefty drop in the rankings, landing at No. 18, while Northern Illinois managed to sneak their way in, sitting at No. 25 ahead of week three.

As far as LSU football is concerned, even despite their early game struggles vs. Nicholls, they’re finally finding some upward momentum. After sitting at No. 18 just last week, they’ve now moved up two slots to No. 16 overall, sandwiched between No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 17 Michigan.

The purple and gold are one of an eye-popping eight SEC programs currently ranked within the top-25, but the most impressive feat from the conference is the fact that they currently make up for six of the top seven teams nationally. This is the first time the AP Poll has ever seen this happen.

As we look ahead of this past weekend’s victory over Nicholls, LSU still has one of the more difficult schedules nationally, as they’re expected to host No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 4 Alabama and No. 15 Oklahoma before the 2024 season ultimately comes to a close. Only adding to the expected difficulty, future opponents Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and South Carolina are each receiving votes for the poll, sitting at 28th, 34th and 35th, respectively.
