The Tiger offense was on fire from the start vs. Mississippi State. Namely, Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers couldn’t be stopped and would, in turn, share the title of SEC Offensive Player of the Week. This is especially notable when you consider that they made LSU football history, as it was the third time in program history.

What a day it was for the LSU football offense! On a day when no one was quite sure what they’d get out of the team, the Tigers outperformed any and all expectations.

The final score was 41-14, but this reflects a much closer outcome than we witnessed. The Tigers totaled 530 yards compared to the Bulldogs’ 201.

As dominant as that seems, it was the passing game that really shined on the day. Wide receiver Malik Nabers was elite, pure and simple. He recorded 13 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns on the day. However, we must remember the man throwing him the ball. Quarterback Jayden Daniels threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns, completing nearly 90 percent of his passes.

Following the dominant performance vs. Mississippi State, the duo shared SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for week three.

There’s no question the performance was one of the best we’ve seen from a Tiger offense in quite some time. Still, it might have been even better than most fans realized, as the duo made LSU football history in the process.

Being named Co-SEC Offensive Players of the Week is an honor in itself. Still, it’s even more impressive when you realize just how rare it is for that to be given to a pair of teammates.

In the nearly 40 years that this award has been given out, just five teammate duos have shared the award in the same week. Even more impressive is the fact that three of those five played for LSU football.

The first Tiger pair to achieve the accomplishment was in 1986, as quarterback Tommy Hodson and wide receiver Wendell Davis shared it. The only other time was in 2019 when quarterback Joe Burrow and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire became the second pair in LSU football history.

Now, Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers can add their names to the elite list. This was Daniels’ third time winning the award, while Nabers earned it for the first time.
