In college football, speed is the name of the game. If you can outrun just about anyone on the field, you immediately have a leg up in the competition. If you have elite ability to go along with it, you become nearly unstoppable. For LSU football cornerback target, class of 2024 five-star Kobe Black, he has some incredible speed that will give him an immediate advantage at the college level.
LSU football cornerback target Kobe Black runs an elite 21.7 MPH
Speed is one of the most valuable assets you can have in college football. Not only does it allow you to compete at a high level, but mistakes become far less deadly. If a defender misses a tackle but has top-end speed, the chances of him being able to get up and make a chase-down tackle increase significantly.
For five-star LSU football cornerback target Kobe Black, he has that kind of speed and more. As soon as he hits the open field, it’s rare to see anyone catch him.
On Monday, VNN Sports released a clip of the class of 2024 star. In the video, Black hit a top speed of 21.7 MPH, which makes him one of the fastest players in football.
For context, the fastest recorded ball-carrier in the 2022 NFL season was wide receiver Parris Campbell of the Giants, who hit a top speed of 22.11 MPH. Black’s 21.7 MPH speed would have had him ranked sixth, just ahead of Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
Black currently ranks as the No. 26 player nationally and No. 5 in Texas, according to 247 Sports. The class of 2024 stud also sits as the No. 2 cornerback, so there is much more to this recruit than just his speed.
Coach Brian Kelly already has one of the best recruiting classes in the country, as his class of 2024 group ranks No. 13 overall. If the Tigers can find a way to land a top recruit such as Kobe Black, it would give them a significant boost.
As things stand, Texas is the team to beat for the elite five-star. Still, he has two visits lined up for Baton Rouge later this summer. All it takes to change a recruitment is one or two good impressions. We’ll have to wait and see if Kelly can work some magic.
