Coach Brian Kelly has an incredible opportunity tomorrow. Not only does he have the chance to land one topĀ recruit, but maybe two. Even better is that the recruits go to the same high school and are announcing their college decision together at 2:00 p.m. CST. Those two players are class of 2024 running back Caden Durham and edge rusher Colin Simmons, and ifĀ LSU football recruitingĀ can land both stud Texans, it could do wonders for the future of the purple and gold.
Thursday has the potential to be a memorable day for LSU football recruiting
Tomorrow, two of the top recruits in the state of Texas will announce their college decision. Even better, theyāll be announcing together on 247 Sports at 2:00 p.m. CST.
The reason this is important for Tiger fans is the fact that LSU football happens to be the only school that appears on both playersā lists. Five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons will decide between Texas, Miami and LSU. On the other side, four-star running back Caden Durham has trimmed his list to Oklahoma, Texas A&M and LSU.
Coach Brian Kelly has been recruiting both of these players hard for quite some time, and thereās no question that theyāre each a priority to the Tigersā head coach.
Thereās no way to know precisely where the two players are going, but LSU is one of the top choices for both. If Kelly can find a way to land a commitment from one or even both of them, it would do wonders for the Tigersā class of 2024.
Colin Simmons is one of the top edge rushers in the class of 2024
Few football recruits are better than Colin Simmons in the class of 2024. RankingĀ No. 8 overall, according to the 247 Sports Composite, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound edge rusher is as good as they come.
The thing that makes him particularly special is his production. Itās not uncommon to see talent without the stats to back it up with players coming out of high school. However, this couldnāt be further from the truth for Simmons.
In 2022, the five-star edge rusher recruit broke the Duncanville school record with 22.5 sacks. In addition, he was a significant piece in helping lead his team to a 15-0 record and the Texas Class 6A-Division I state championship.
Heās a proven winner and could immediately impact at the college level, wherever he ends up. Texas and LSU are the primary contenders for the star recruit but donāt count Miami out yet.
If coach Brian Kelly can find a way to land a commitment from him, it would do incredible things for the LSU football program. Not only would he be their first five-star commitment in the class of 2024, but he could immediately come in as one of the best defenders on the LSU defense in 2024.
Caden Durham has been the No. 1 running back target for the Tigers since day one
When it comes to recruiting in college football, you practically never see a school zero in on just one player at a position. That being said, thatās exactly what the LSU football coaching staff did at running back for the class of 2024.
For a large portion of this recruiting cycle, Caden Durham has been the one running back recruit the Tigers have been after. For running backs coach Frank Wilson to go after Durham almost solely speaks volumes to the four-star recruitās talent.
Durham ranks as theĀ No. 95 player nationally, according to the 247 Sports Composite, and the No. 9 running back. While he isnāt necessarily the highest-rated, itās not for a lack of talent.
Standing at 5-foot-9, 195 pounds, the four-star running back recruit has top-tier speed. On the track, heās gone a 10.25-second 100-meter dash, as well as a 21.12-second 200-meter. Furthermore, as a junior, he was about as productive as you could hope for, running the ball 210 times for 1,960 yards and 36 touchdowns.
The race for Durham appears to be primarily between Oklahoma and LSU, but Texas A&M is also a strong contender. If the Tigers can land a commitment from the four-star running back, it would give them one of the best and fastest running backs in the entire class of 2024.
The two star Duncanville products will announce their college decisions on the 247 Sports YouTube tomorrow. Coverage begins Thursday, August 10, at 1:45 p.m. CST.
