Change is never easy. However, if you go in with a positive mentality and make the most of it, things could turn in your favor. For offensive tackle Emery Jones Jr, that’s precisely how he’s going about things this season. Freshman offensive tackle Zalance Heard has been coming on strong, leading to some shuffling of the offensive line. Rather than being negative about things, though, the LSU football sophomore offensive tackle is taking it in stride as he prepares for Mississippi State.
Offensive tackle Emery Jones Jr is making the most of offensive line adjustments
Heading into week two, coach Brian Kelly was ready to make some adjustments. Among several was the slow implementation of freshman offensive tackle Zalance Heard.
When Kelly decided to start working him into the lineup, it required some serious shifts among the rest of the offensive line. The team has two stellar offensive tackles already with Will Campbell and Emery Jones Jr, so that meant one would have to slide inside.
Offensive tackle Emery Jones Jr ended up being the man for the job, shifting inside to one of the guard slots. This made room for Zalance Heard at right tackle, which could be the future.
It was an incredibly successful move, and the Tigers’ offensive line adjustments worked like a charm almost right away. However, the best part of it might have been the mentality of the group as a whole.
They were flexible and willing to do what was best for the team. Earlier this week, offensive tackle Emery Jones Jr spoke on the changes a bit and had nothing but good things to say.
“It’s actually been fun. Coach Davis always teaches us across the board, so I kind of watch guys get coached every day, and I kind of know what to do. I’ve got a general idea of what to do and everything. So, it’s just been a fun transition. I’m showing my flexibility on the O-Line, which I think is going to be a great thing in the future. I’ve been having fun.”
LSU football is taking things one game at a time
LSU football had some incredibly high expectations heading out of the offseason. Many viewed them as a playoff team and an SEC Championship contender. However, things have been tamed a bit following their week one loss.
Still, that hasn’t changed the stance of this group. Notably, the offensive line is ready to take on the world one game at a time. When speaking with the media, he also discussed the position group and how they would prove the haters wrong.
“We don’t got nothing to prove to nobody. Honestly, I feel like in that O-Line room, we are all brothers, no matter what happens – good or bad. We’re gonna stay together. Like I said, we’ve kind of just been trying to focus on one game at a time, every week going 1-0. So, we kind of dumped the Florida State game, and now we’re looking forward to Mississippi State.”
Some of the best teams in college football history took things one game at a time. While LSU football is, without a doubt, playing catch up, all of their goals remain in front of them. First things first, Mississippi State is on the clock.
