With just one day remaining until the start of the class of 2025 early signing period, LSU football coach Brian Kelly is tasked with the challenge of keeping his group together, as five-star cornerback Kade Phillips became the latest blue chip recruit to decommit from his program.
Cornerback Kade Phillips becomes second five-star recruit to flip from LSU football in last two weeks
The offseason is nearly upon us, and the class of 2025 early signing period is even closer.
Most years, this portion of the season gives fanbases reason for excitement as they get a glimpse at what could be for the future of their favorite programs. Unfortunately for LSU football fans, however, it feels like the closer we get to signing day, the more things seem to be going wrong.
Less than two weeks ago, Brian Kelly and his coaching staff suffered the loss of the season, as five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood announced his decommitment from the purple and gold in favor of his home-state Michigan Wolverines. Since then, only more decommitments have followed, as four-star edge rusher LA Jesse Harrold opened things back up on November 28, while five-star cornerback Kade Phillips most recently announced a flip to his home-state Texas Longhorns.
Officially listed as a 6-foot-1, 175-pound cornerback out of Missouri City, TX, Kade Phillips first announced his commitment to coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers on August 18, after having originally been pledged to the Longhorns since July 6.
As it would turn out, the five-star recruit and No. 23 player nationally, according to On3, has since decided that he had it right from the start, and will now sign with Steve Sarkisian and Texas on Wednesday.
Following the last few decommitments, the LSU football class of 2025 is now rated as the No. 8 group nationally, as well as the No. 5 class in the SEC with 24 total commitments. Cornerback DJ Pickett and running back Harlem Berry are now the lone five-star pledges in this year’s group, to go along with 17 four-stars and five three-stars.
