When it comes to LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, success seems to follow no matter where she goes. Whether as a player or a coach, she’s won almost everywhere she’s been, and her time in Baton Rouge appears to be no different. Most recently, a piece of her success was enshrined in bronze as Louisiana Tech unveiled her statue Wednesday night.

Few have found more basketball success in Louisiana than LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey.

As a player, Mulkey played for Louisiana Tech, helping to lead them to an overall record 130-6, two national championships and two final four appearances between 1980-1984.

As an assistant and associate head coach with the Lady Techsters, she helped lead them to a record of 430-68, a national championship and seven Final Four appearances between 1985-2000.

Now, after an incredibly successful head coaching career at Baylor, she’s back in the state she loves with LSU women’s basketball and won yet another national championship this past season.

While she’s best known for her head coaching career over the last 23 years, her time with Louisiana Tech might have been her most impressive.

To commemorate her time with the Lady Techsters, she had a bronze statue of herself revealed on Wednesday evening. The statue was unveiled alongside five others – honoring former Louisiana Tech stars Terry Bradshaw, Fred Dean, Karl Malone, Willie Roaf and Teresa Weatherspoon.

LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey has undoubtedly had one of the most impressive athletic careers in college basketball. If you combine her entire time with the sport, she’s accumulated a total record of 1,252-186.

What can you really say about a statistic like that? It’s the stuff of legends, and coach Mulkey is exactly that: a legend in the purest form, and Louisiana is lucky to have her.
