We’re only four practices into spring football, and already we’re beginning to see some young stars separate themselves as potential impact players for the 2024 season. Among said players is LSU sophomore wide receiver Kyle Parker, who’s quickly emerging as a candidate for some starting snaps.
LSU sophomore wide receiver impressing early in spring practice
The 2023 LSU football season wasn’t exactly one for up and coming wide receivers to make their mark on the college football landscape. With talented pass catchers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr leading the way, most of the starting snaps had already been spoken for well before spring football.
However, with both players now heading to the next level as projected first round draft selections, the door has suddenly swung wide open for the rest of the wide receiver room. In turn, it’s a pretty safe bet that we’ll see an intense position battle all the way up to the 2024 season, but we may already be seeing some players step up for potential starting reps.
Among the guys impressing most early on is LSU sophomore wide receiver Kyle Parker, who redshirted as a freshman this past year and will have four years of eligibility remaining heading into the next season.
Interestingly enough, it seems as though the talented underclassman may have just needed some time to learn the offense. Despite making just four appearances in his freshman season, Parker has already been seen taking first-team reps alongside veteran pass catchers Chris Hilton Jr and Kyren Lacy.
Kyle Parker has the quarterback approval
While on its own, starting reps during spring practice doesn’t hold a ton of weight when it comes to the following fall, it certainly does if paired with your starting quarterback beginning to take notice.
By taking snaps with the first-team offense earlier this week, Kyle Parker was in turn running routes for starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who’s entering his fourth season with the program and knows the offense inside and out.
In doing so, Nussmeier also had a hands on look at the former four-star wide receiver out of Lucas, TX, and thus far, it sounds as though he was pretty impressed with what he saw.
“He’s looked like he knows what’s going on,” the Tiger quarterback said while speaking with the media this week. “He knows what he’s doing, he’s worked his tail off, and it’s been translating onto the field.”
There’s still plenty of time remaining until the eventual start of the 2024 college football season, and plenty could happen over the next five months. Still, with Kyle Parker looking like the real deal in early spring, we could end up seeing plenty of the LSU sophomore wide receiver by the time fall rolls around. For now, it’s just a matter of keeping the momentum going in the right direction.
