Following yet another successful weekend in recruiting, there’s been plenty of positive momentum flowing towards the LSU football program. In fact, after an official visit from five-star cornerback DJ Pickett on May 31, it’s starting to look like the Tigers might be sitting in the driver’s seat within his recruitment.

Five-star cornerback DJ Pickett continues to enjoy his time getting to know the LSU football program

When it comes to the LSU football defense heading into 2024, there’s still plenty of work to be done. Interestingly enough, the same can be said about recruiting the defensive side of the ball in the class of 2025, but it’s important to note that the Tiger coaching staff is already making some serious strides in that exact department.

Over the weekend, the program hosted several of the top recruits nationally, headlined by five-star wide receivers Jaime Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett and five-star cornerback DJ Pickett.

In the case of Pickett, this was his fourth trip over to Baton Rouge, LA in just the last five months, and it’s sounding like he’s been enjoying himself more and more with each visit.

While speaking about the talented defensive back out of Zephyrhills, FL earlier this week, On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong had some encouraging things to say as far as the purple and gold defense is concerned.

“Coming out of this official visit, and even coming into the official visit, I think it’s been LSU setting the bar, setting the tone in this recruitment, and it’s because of Corey Raymond and what he’s done historically at the position,” Wiltfong said while speaking with On3 host and producer Josh Newburg.

“He feels so comfortable in Baton Rouge. LSU’s got the No. 2 class in the country right now and I think that they’re the ones to beat for DJ Pickett as he continues through his process.”

Rated as a five-star nationally, according to On3, Pickett ranks among the very best in the entire class of 2025, sitting at No. 4 overall and No. 1 among fellow cornerbacks.

While Miami, Georgia and Oregon have also continued to make a strong push for the highly sought-after recruit, it’s easy to feel pretty good about where the purple and gold stand for the time being. He’ll next take official visits to Georgia (June 7), Miami (June 14) and Oregon (June 21) later this month, so depending on how those trips go, expect secondary coach Corey Raymond and the entire LSU coaching staff to keep their foot on the gas in this one up to the very end.
