When the offensive line is working, the offense is working. The big men up front are some of the most important on the field, so recruiting the position at a high level is essential. When looking at the classes of 2022 and 2023, LSU football had no problem doing so. Now, as we look to the class of 2024, the Tigers have some work to do. Still, good news may be on the way, as three-star Ory Williams is trending towards Baton Rouge.
LSU football recruiting has just two offensive linemen in its class of 2024
In the class of 2023, LSU football landed commitments from five offensive linemen. In 2022, they had four, including two which turned into immediate starters for the Tigers.
So far, in the class of 2024, the purple and gold only have commitments from two in the position group. Those two players are offensive tackle Ethan Calloway and inside offensive lineman Khayree Lee.
According to 247 Sports, both commitments are three-star recruits, but it wouldn’t surprise to see that change in a big way in the near future. Each of those two recruits has college-level size, standing at 6-foot-5 or taller and 300 pounds or heavier.
You can teach skill, but size is something you’re born with.
While it’s fantastic that the Tigers have these two elite recruits on board, it isn’t enough to fill a class. Luckily for Tigers fans, coach Brian Kelly still has several elite offensive linemen on his board, including one who may be announcing his college decision any day now.
Coach Brian Kelly’s squad may be trending to a third O-Line commitment
There’s little question that LSU football still has some work to do for their class of 2024 offensive line group. They have solid pieces in place, but depth is where issues begin to pop up.
However, those issues may be going away shortly. Yesterday morning, LSU football received a crystal ball prediction for elite three-star offensive lineman Ory Williams – the crystal ball game from Sonny Shipp of Geaux247.
For coach Brian Kelly, this should come as excellent news. On July 20, Williams announced that his commitment is on the way.
Williams is listed as a three-star and the No. 556 player in the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite. In addition, he’s an incredible athlete, standing at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds.
If coach Brian Kelly can find a way to land the elite offensive tackle, he could turn into one of the more underrated players in the class. In the meantime, keep an eye on this recruitment, as his college decision should be arriving shortly.
