Coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers are quickly moving through spring practice, and already, we’re starting to see some young pieces turn into seasoned veterans. Notably, the LSU football offense is planning to boost the usage of All-American offensive linemen Emery Jones Jr and Will Campbell.

The LSU football offense is entering a new era. With quarterback Jayden Daniels being off to the NFL, they can no longer rely on his running ability to move the ball downfield.

In turn, it’s a safe bet that we’ll see much more from the vertical passing game, as well as the ground and pound run game. If this transition is to go well, stud offensive linemen Emery Jones Jr and Will Campbell will need to be a big part of it.

Each of the last two seasons, the world has known the pair as impressive young pieces with NFL potential. Still, they haven’t exactly been relied on heavily, largely due to their youth in the midst of a physical SEC schedule.

However, as we look ahead to the 2024 college football season, the duo will now be looked at as veterans on the LSU football offense, and coach Brian Kelly is already looking for new ways to get them involved.

“I think this is the year that we really put a lot more emphasis on them to be involved in our offensive structure in terms of schemes,” the Tiger head coach said during Saturday’s media availability. “No longer is this about ‘We’ve got two really good young tackles.’ We want to be able to take advantage of their actual ability in the schemes.

“You probably saw us moving them a lot more, pulling them, getting them involved in our offensive structure a lot more. So I think in year three, knowing we have two outstanding tackles, let’s get them involved in our run scheme. And so, there’s been a lot more pin and pull, a lot more outside zone, and that’s to feature both of those guys in particular.”

Outside of quarterback Jayden Daniels, the LSU football offense struggled to get much going in terms of a run game in 2023. With their running backs totaling just 1,516 yards and 22 touchdowns in the last outing, they’ll likely be relied upon much more during the 2024 campaign.

If the group hopes to take a jump forward as a whole, look for both Emery Jones Jr and Will Campbell to play a major role. Having earned All-American and Joe Moore Award finalist recognition over the last two seasons, the Tiger offensive line has the potential to be one of the best in the country this year.

Now, it’s just a matter of turning young talent into veteran dominance.
