When you come to a major SEC program as a three-star, thereā€™s generally a bit more work to do in terms of getting on the field. For class of 2023 cornerback Ashton Stamps, that may be the case, but heā€™s not afraid of the work. Early on in the Tigersā€™ fall camp, that stood out to the coaching staff, and theĀ LSU football freshmanĀ has shown he has what it takes to become great.

LSU football freshman cornerback Ashton Stamps worked for his scholarship offer

The LSU football class of 2023 was one of the best in the country. It finished No. 5 overall, according to 247 Sports, and the Tigers ended up with two five-star commits.

However, itā€™s important to remember that stars arenā€™t everything when it comes to high school football recruiting. Sometimes, all it takes to be a star is to be given a chance and to have a work ethic.

For three-star cornerback Ashton Stamps, that may just be the case.Ā According to 247 Sports, Stamps ranks as the No. 44 cornerbackĀ in the class of 2023 and the No. 18 player out of Louisiana.

Growing up in Louisiana, more often than not, the dream is to play football for Louisiana State University. Unfortunately for Stamps, though, things werenā€™t looking promising.

Still, he was determined and visited three different LSU camps to be noticed by the coaching staff. In the end, the effort paid off for all parties involved. Stamps received a scholarship offer for LSU football on June 17 and announced his commitment to the program on July 4.

Now, the LSU football freshman cornerback is on roster and impressing early on into fall camp.

Defensive Coordinator Matt House has been impressed early on by the former three-star

LSU football has welcomed a whoppingĀ 40 new membersĀ to its program heading into 2023. Among those 40 are 26 freshmen.

Still, even within those massive numbers, former three-star Ashton Stamps has found his way into the eyes of the Tiger coaching staff. More specifically, heā€™s impressed defensive coordinator Matt House early on.

When speaking with the media earlier today, House spoke about several players around the defense, but no name came up more than that of Ashton Stamps.

When asked about the freshman class, Stamps was one of the first names to come to mind for House.

ā€œYeah, excited about that class in general. Iā€™ve already spoke to Ashton,ā€Ā the defensive coordinator said.Ā ā€œAshtonā€™s a football nut, heā€™s a guy that when you teach him something, he grabs ahold of it.ā€

Later on, he was asked to expand a bit with an example. House wasnā€™t hesitant in speaking on the work ethic Stamps has shown from the moment they began recruiting him.

ā€œIā€™ll go ahead and tell you this. You wanna talk about, as a staff, I mean, the guy came to camp three times to LSU to get a scholarship offer. I think thatā€™s all you need to tell about Ashton Stamps. He wants to be here, he wants to be great, and heā€™s not scared of competition. And sometimes, thatā€™s not always true right now. Right? And heā€™s a dude that embraces competition every day.ā€

Plenty of work is left to be done for freshman cornerback Ashton Stamps. Still, heā€™s not afraid of the moment, and early signs show that he certainly isnā€™t afraid of the competition.
