Coming off of three series wins in a row in SEC play, LSU baseball is rolling and Jay Johnson knows it. Earlier this week, the Tiger head coach expressed his overall excitement and sent a message to his team ahead of the upcoming series vs. Alabama.
Coach Jay Johnson and the Tigers have plenty to be excited about heading into their series vs. Alabama
LSU baseball is in a very different world today than it was just one month ago. Entering the Missouri series on Friday, April 19, the Tigers had lost five SEC series in a row and things couldnât have been trending in a much more downward direction.
However, that abysmal start didnât break them. In fact, having just won 10 out of their last 13 games, including two wins over No. 1 Texas A&M, it feels like that rough start to in-conference play might have just ended up being the motivating factor they needed.
âIâm so proud of our team right now,â LSU coach Jay Johnson said while speaking to the media on Tuesday. âWeâve been playing playoff baseball for a month, and they just stay with it.â
SEC baseball will truly never be easy. Each game you play has the potential to be a postseason matchup down the line, and in turn, it often doesnât leave much room for in-season growth. If you arenât ready from the get-go, things can get away from you in a hurry.
However, even with an almost completely revamped starting lineup â which includes as many as three freshmen and four transfer additions â LSU baseball has found their way and are now sitting in the driverâs seat ahead of a big-time series vs. Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Heading into the weekend, the Crimson Tide are sitting pretty with a solid 30-18 record, which includes series wins over several top-25 ranked opponents such as Tennessee, South Carolina and Arkansas.
With that said, this weekend could once again pose some serious challenges for LSU, which means the purple and gold will once again have their hands full ahead of an in-conference series. Still, being one of the hottest teams in the SEC, sometimes all you need is a vote of confidence from your head coach to give you that extra push, which just so happens to be exactly what the Tigers have.
âItâs awesome. I mean, weâve played our way into â this is an awesome series, and weâre going to have a blast going out there and competing and going for it.â
The first game of the series will get going later this evening, as LSU baseball will face off against coach Rob Vaughn and the Alabama Crimson Tide today at 6:00 p.m. CST in Tuscaloosa, AL. The game will take place in Sewell-Thomas Stadium and will be available to watch live on SEC Network+.
