This past weekend was just the start of a stellar recruiting month for coach Matt McMahon and the Tigers. Starting on September 7, LSU basketball hosted four-star shooting guard recruit Billy Richmond.

Matt McMahon and the Tigers are yet to gain a single commitment for its class of 2024. However, things could be rapidly changing based on the recruiting visits lined up in the near future.

To start the month of September, LSU basketball hosted four-star shooting guard Billy Richmond. While it’s hard to tell just how well it went, things appear to be pointing up, according to his Twitter.

According to 247 Sports, Richmond ranks as the No. 34 recruit in the country. Furthermore, he’s No. 6 among shooting guards and No. 3 in New Jersey.

While it could be tough to land him all the way from “The Garden State,” the fact that they got him on a visit nearly a month after they offered him is an excellent sign. Additionally, coach McMahon has a fantastic track record with guards, which should help the Tigers down the line.

Coach Matt McMahon and the Tigers have a massive recruiting weekend coming up

Notably, shooting guard Billy Richmond isn’t the only top recruit visiting Baton Rouge this month. For whatever reason, coach Matt McMahon has placed a significant emphasis on September, which could pay off.

More specifically, the weekend of September 22-24 is a big one. That weekend alone, the Tigers will host five top 100 class of 2024 recruits.

Here is the complete list of recruits set to visit that weekend:

  • Four-star SF Rakease Passmore (Asheville, NC)
  • Four-star PF Nicolas Codie (Carrollton, TX)
  • Four-star C Ryan Jones (Gainesville, FL)
  • Four-star CG Mikey Lewis (Napa, CA)
  • Four-star SF Micah Robinson (Mouth of Wilson, VA)

The Tiger basketball program has plenty of recruiting momentum at the moment. If coach McMahon manages to land a commitment from two or three of these recruits, the Tigers could be on their way to one of the best 2024 classes in college basketball.
