Just last week, LSU coach Brian Kelly told the media that he had plans of being “aggressive” in the 2025 transfer portal window. As it turns out, many of his players had similar ideas, as five Tigers are now reportedly expected to enter the portal when it opens December 9, 2024, most recently including edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack and safety Jordan Allen.

Sophomore edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack becomes first Tiger defender to plan on entering the 2025 transfer portal

Heading into Tuesday, just two LSU football players were expected to enter the 2025 transfer portal. While that number was never going to say quite that low, it’s hard to say anyone expected it to grow quite as quickly as it has in just the last few hours.

Starting things off was wide receiver CJ Daniels, who was reported as an expected name earlier this morning, joining quarterback Rickie Collins and wide receiver Landon Ibieta – both of which made their decisions over the last two days.

Now, just a matter of hours later, the list has officially more than doubled in size from yesterday, as both edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack and safety Jordan Allen are expected to become the first two Tiger defenders to enter the 2025 transfer portal.

Womack first burst onto the season in Baton Rouge as a freshman in 2023, logging 15 total tackles, two tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery coming off the bench. For many it felt like he left his mark just about every time he touched the field, and it was almost assumed that he’d be taking a jump forward as a sophomore in 2024.

That said, the Baltimore, MD, product’s second season with the program ended up taking a different trajectory, as he managed just eight total tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and four passes defended in eight game appearances.

The soon-to-be junior edge rusher will have two years of eligibility remaining, and having been rated as a five-star recruit coming out of high school, can likely be expected to be an impact player for whichever program he ultimately ends up with.

Starting safety Jordan Allen also expected to make a move

While it’s never easy to lose a former five-star recruit to the transfer portal, it might be even harder to lose a former starter, and that just so happens to be exactly the case for LSU football with safety Jordan Allen.

A former three-star recruit out of Lafayette, LA, Allen first began to emerge as a future star in the purple and gold during the 2023 season, when his snap count slowly kept increasing as the season moved along. In turn, it came as very little surprise when he saw a hefty dose of reps with the first team in 2024.

Unfortunately for the junior defender, the surge was short lived, as he would ultimately be ruled out for the remainder of this past season with an injury following the LSU 42-10 win over South Alabama in late September.

Assuming he follows through and enters the 2025 transfer portal, Jordan Allen will have two years of eligibility remaining.
