It’s officially game day, so it’s time for our weekly predictions. This week, the matchup is LSU football vs. Missouri, and coach Brian Kelly and his 2023 defense could have their hands full heading into today’s game.
Four predictions ahead of LSU football vs. Missouri
1. Three wide receivers reach 100 yards
Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III has recorded four 100-yard games through the 2023 season thus far. LSU wide receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr have recorded a total of six 100-yard games between the two of them.
In total, that group of three has combined for 10 games over 100 yards receiving, and it would not surprise in the slightest to see them add three more to the total this Saturday.
For any aspiring pass catchers in the country, LSU football vs. Missouri will be the game to watch this weekend. An impressive amount of talent will be on display in Columbia that should only be amplified by the defenses.
In turn, I expect that we could see three different wide receivers finish the day with 100 yards receiving.
2. Da’Shawn Womack records second career sack
Two weeks ago, freshman edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack had as efficient a day as someone could hope to have. Then, last week, he didn’t see the field.
While the defensive struggles vs. Ole Miss weren’t a direct correlation of this, if you have talent on your defense, you need to utilize it.
Earlier this week, coach Brian Kelly expressed interest in an expanded rotation along the defensive line. This could mean we see plenty more of Womack in week six, which gives the potential for big things for the Tiger pass rush.
If he gets an increase in snaps, we could see him record his second recorded sack in the last three weeks.
3. Jayden Daniels hits 11,000 career passing yards
Jayden Daniels is on the cusp of becoming one of the greatest dual-threat quarterbacks LSU football has ever seen.
So far, in 2023, the senior quarterback has thrown the ball 160 times for 1,710 yards and 16 touchdowns. Additionally, he’s thrown just two interceptions and is averaging 10.7 yards per pass.
Most notably, he sits at 10,647 passing yards over his five seasons as a college football quarterback. This also means he’s just 353 yards from hitting 11,000.
If we look at his season average, the possibility of him hitting the milestone becomes far less daunting. He’s averaged 342 yards per game in 2023, which means if he can throw just slightly higher than his average, it’s a genuine possibility, and we expect him to make it happen vs. Missouri.
4. Final score prediction
Up to this point, coach Brian Kelly and his squad have made it abundantly clear what they’re very good at and what they’re terrible at.
We know their offense can compete with just about anyone in the country. However, we also know the defense is more than capable of giving up plenty of points.
Because of this, it’d be wise to expect another shootout in today’s matchup of LSU football vs. Missouri. The Tigers of Columbia have an impressive offense, so if coach Brian Kelly’s defense manages to make at least a few stops, it could be significant in determining today’s outcome.
I expect the offenses to go back and forth early, but the purple and gold defense should show up when it matters most, leading the Tigers to pull away late for a 45-34 win over Missouri.
