The Tiger defense currently ranks among the worst in all college football. Naturally, it’s time to start looking at possible changes, and coach Brian Kelly will use their 2023 matchup vs. Missouri to try that. Most notably, there will be some hefty changes along the LSU football defensive line, including a rotation of 8+ players.
Coach Brian Kelly lists 8+ players for the LSU football defensive line rotation
Last week vs. Ole Miss, the defensive line was largely ineffective, and the final score was a perfect representation. The Rebels beat the Tigers 55-49 in a game where the LSU football defensive line practically disappeared.
On the day, they recorded zero sacks and one tackle for loss. In contrast, the Ole Miss offense ran the ball for 317 yards and three touchdowns on 6.5 yards per carry.
It’s not difficult to figure out how bad those numbers are, and so coach Brian Kelly is looking to make some changes vs. Missouri. When speaking with the media earlier this week, he outlined his possible rotation, and it’s an expansive list.
“Jordan Jefferson is gonna play. Jacobian (Guillory) is gonna play. (Mekhi) Wingo, Maason Smith, Sai’vion (Jones) and Paris Shand. So, those eight guys, and then you’re going to add the two JACKs in (Bradyn) Swinson and Ovie (Oghoufo). You’re going to see them all in a rotation – and (Da’Shawn) Womack,” coach Brian Kelly said in regard to the LSU football defensive line.
“So, we’re gonna have a rotation of all those D-Linemen coming in and out of the game, and they all can help us win. We’re only going to play guys that can help us win – all those guys can help us win.”
Whether an expanded rotation helps or not is yet to be seen. Still, getting some younger guys like edge rusher Da’Shawn Womack in the game can’t hurt. If anything, it could create a much-needed spark leading into the rest of 2023.
