One of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year is coming up for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers. Still, they showed no hesitation in beginning the fireworks as LSU football lands elite four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton.

LSU football lands elite four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton

Heading into the week, it was already known that LSU football has a chance at earning several commits in the coming days. Two recruits – offensive tackle Ory Williams and cornerback Cai Bates – announced they’d be committing soon. Bates was more specific, designating July 26 as his decision date.

Still, before we even had the chance to look into their recruitments, the Tigers landed their first commitment since offensive tackle Ethan Calloway on June 30.

Last night, four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton announced his commitment to play for LSU. Singleton is the third linebacker to join the Tigers’ class of 2024.

For coach Brian Kelly, earning Singleton’s commitment is huge for the program. According to the 247 Sports Composite, he is the No. 140 player in the country and the No. 10 linebacker. In addition, he’s the No. 5 player out of Louisiana, so keeping him in state was a win of its own.

Singleton has immediate impact potential

Tylen Singleton possesses elite speed and pursuit ability. This is largely thanks to his track background, as he ran a 22.63-second 200-meter as a sophomore in 2022.

Regarding how it translates to the field, few use their speed better than him. Even on plays where he seems entirely out of it, he always finds a way to make an impact.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 208 pounds, he has the flexibility to play multiple spots on the field. You could put him at linebacker and allow him to roam the entire field with his elite speed. You could also slot him in at safety, in which he could become a hard-hitting bruiser over the years.

Last season, LSU football had several immediate impact freshmen. If you’re good enough, coach Brian Kelly will find a way to get you on the field. Singleton has the kind of talent we could see on the field early and often as long as he continues to improve.

Coach Brian Kelly has commitments from eight of the top ten recruits in Louisiana

At this point, it’s safe to say that no other school recruits their state better than LSU. The Tigers have a definite advantage in that department, as there aren’t many other top programs in the state. Schools like Tulane and Louisiana-Lafayette have shown flashes, but LSU is the only school with consistent success at the highest level.

Luckily for the Tigers, Louisiana also happens to be an incredible spot for elite talent. It must be something in the water.

Coach Brian Kelly placed a significant emphasis on keeping local kids local, and so far, it couldn’t have worked much better. When looking at the 247 Sports top 10 recruits in the state, the Tigers are all over it. In fact, they have already gained commitments from eight of the top 10.

There’s a strong possibility that Brian Kelly’s squad can end the class of 2024 with all 10 of those elite recruits committed to play for the program. Both of the remaining uncommitted recruits have LSU football in their list of finalists, which is excellent news for the Tigers.

Look for coach Kelly to put his foot on the gas heading into and out of this week. With Tylen Singleton committed to the program, things are looking good for the purple and gold. More commitments could very well be on the way in the coming days.
