And just like that, running backs coach Frank Wilson might be having himself a career offseason. After landing a five-star running back in early January, the talented assistant now has LSU football recruiting trending for yet another elite class of 2025 ball carrier in Louisiana-based JT Lindsey.
LSU football recruiting officially in the driverâs seat for four-star running back JT Lindsey
On January 3, 2024, LSU football recruiting landed a big-time commitment from one of the best players in the country when five-star running back Harlem Berry made the decision to stay close to home.
At the time, it was a dream come true, and the Tigers were just about set at the running back position heading into the future. At least, thatâs what many thought early on, but recent events might be indicating that the purple and gold arenât done yet.
Over the past month or so, LSU has found itself trending for several other talented Louisiana-based running backs, and most recently, the Tigers jumped into the driverâs seat for class of 2025 blue chip recruit JT Lindsey.
Earlier this week, Lindsey, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound back out of Alexandria, LA, received a big-time offer from LSU, and early indications show that he may elect to return the favor in the not too distant future.
Since being offered, multiple recruiting experts have logged predictions for the four-star running back to end up with the Tigers, as Shea Dixon of On3 got things started on Monday morning.
Now, with both On3 and 247Sports having the Tigers as significant favorites to earn his eventual pledge, this kind of momentum is big for several reasons. Not only is it looking likely that theyâll be able to get an in-state recruit, but with him ranking No. 143 nationally, and No. 11 among running backs, according to On3, heâs one of the best recruits regardless of position.
Other class of 2025 ball carriers to keep an eye on
In the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Tiger coaching staff raised some eyebrows by targeting just one running back prospect consistently leading up to national signing day. Itâs a risky play, but one that worked out in favor of the purple and gold, as they ultimately landed a commitment from talented four-star running back Caden Durham.
Now, not too far in the future, weâre already beginning to get an idea of why they felt so confident in going after just one back the entire year.
When it comes to ball carrier talent, Louisiana is about as dominant as it gets in the class of 2025. With three running backs ranking within the top-200 players nationally, the Tigers donât need to go far to try and recruit some of the best in the country.
In turn, LSU football recruiting has found itself with incredible momentum for three four-star or better ball carriers, as James Simon and JT Lindsey are both recent favorites to land with the in-state Tigers.
While itâs unlikely that three four-star or better running backs ultimately sign with the purple and gold class of 2025, it certainly doesnât hurt to have plenty of options.
Right now, depth is a major concern at the position heading into the 2024 season with only two ball carriers on scholarship this spring. Even so, if things continue to trend the way they have this offseason, the 2025 year should be a very different situation, and coach Brian Kelly could end up having himself one of the best position rooms in all of college football.
