Earlier this week, LSU football wide receiver Malik Nabers joined “Out of Pocket” on SEC Network to speak with co-hosts Alyssa Lang and Takeo Spikes. In their interview, Nabers spoke on his quarterback Jayden Daniels and what makes him so good as a Heisman candidate.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers discusses what makes Jayden Daniels so good as a Heisman contender
Wide receiver Malik Nabers and quarterback Jayden Daniels have been one of the most dominant duos in college football this season. Through eight games, they’ve combined for an impressive 55 completions for 930 yards and eight touchdowns.
Still, that level of success didn’t just appear out of thin air. A lot of hard work was involved, and now, in his second year with the program, quarterback Jayden Daniels is one of the top contenders for this year’s Heisman Trophy.
When asked what makes his quarterback stand out above all others, wide receiver Malik Nabers had one thing in mind: work ethic.
“The tremendous work ethic that he comes with at practice,” Nabers said. “He’s the first one in, first person out. He comes in early in the morning – we go watch film at 5:30 in the morning just to get a little early start to the week. So, it’s his work ethic that has been showing throughout the season.”
When looking to show what comes out of hard work, Jayden Daniels is an excellent example. In 2023, he leads the country in passing efficiency (204.32), passing touchdowns (25), total offense (386.8 yards) and yards per pass attempt (11.54).
Look good, play better
Leading the LSU football offense isn’t the only thing quarterback Jayden Daniels excels at. When it comes to off-the-field fashion, he’s one of the very best in college football.
However, according to wide receiver Malik Nabers, he might spend a bit too much when it comes to those sorts of things.
“I would say he spends way too much money on clothes, designer things, chains, diamonds, and yeah that’s it,” said the star wide receiver. “He spends absolutely way too much money month-to-month.”
Still, despite the hefty price tag, it has the approval of Nabers, as he added with a smile on his face, “They’re right. They’re expensive. They’re expensive, but they’re alright.”
We’ll get the chance to see Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers in full force a little over a week from now as the Tigers get ready for Alabama. LSU football will take on the Crimson Tide on Saturday, November 4, in Tuscaloosa around 6:45 p.m. CST.
